"The greatest legacy one can pass on to one's children and grandchildren are not money or other material things accumulated in one's life, but rather a legacy of character and faith." — Billy Graham

I have 3 adult children, two boys and one daughter. Once when my kids were about 4-9 years old, my wife had made a pan of brownies. My youngest son, he was about 6 year’s old, LOVED brownies. We had told him he couldn’t have any brownies until after dinner.

I was working in my office at home and at about 4 pm, my youngest son came into my office and crawled up into my lap and started to cry. I thought, maybe he was upset about a toy or maybe his older brother did something to upset him. So I asked him, “Why are you crying?” He said, “Daddy, I ate some brownies!” My heart melted, he was so ashamed that he disobeyed us; he had to confess to us what he did. At 6 year’s old, he demonstrated great character. I could not have been more proud of him at that moment.

I’m happy to say, he’s grown into one of the best human beings I know. This early character has matured into a fine young (very honest) man. He’s demonstrated this character as his current job. He discovered a problem at work where clients were being cheated and insurance companies were paying way too much and instead of bowing to his owners’ wishes to leave things alone, he confronted them and showed them how if they continued in this practice, they could be at high risk for penalties and prosecution.

I couldn’t ask for a better legacy than to see my children become people of high character. I can die a very happy man.
