"You never know what worse luck your bad luck has saved you from." - Cormac McCarthy

I could tell you countless stories that prove the quote above is spot on. My family has had our fair share of bad luck during my life.

My Dad told me about a business trip he was on. He was scheduled on a flight out of New York to meet a very important client. The evening before he was to fly out, he got a really bad toothache. It was so bad; he had to cancel his meeting and go home to get treated. When he got home, he saw on the news that the flight he was scheduled to be on out of New York crashed into the ocean and there were no survivors.

I’ve often wondered if when I’m in the presence of my Creator after I die, if I’ll be given a chance to ask Him about the many times my life was spared due to what I considered at the time was “bad luck”. How many times have you been stuck in traffic, had a flat tire, road construction slowed you down or a fender bender accident delayed you from reaching your destination? Did any of those times prevent you from being in a horrible accident?

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been very upset when my travel has been interrupted or delayed. Today, when this happens, I try to remember that this temporary inconvenience may be for my benefit. So, rather than get upset/angry, I should consider these as divine appointments allowed for my protection. I can’t prove that this is the case, but it’s something to consider as a man of faith, at the very least, my blood pressure won’t go up as much. ;)
