“Life is like a game of poker. You can be dealt a bad hand and still win the game if you play your cards right.” - Unknown
I know a lady who was “dealt a bad hand” to start her life. She grew up with an abusive father and her mother died at an early age. The father ended up going to prison for his abuse and then she was sent to live with other abusive family members who only used their foster care to get her government money. You would imagine this girl’s life would end in tragedy.
Well, contrary to what most would imagine, this lady took it upon herself to focus on her school work. She worked hard to get straight A’s and earned a full scholarship to UT Austin. She moved out and made new friends since she had no family to rely on, she kept studying, trusting her innate abilities and eventually met a fine young man at school who appreciated all of her sweet qualities. After some years of great therapy, she’s married and has a good job and has a new family that loves her unconditionally. I am blown away at her resilience and ability to overcome such incredible odds to win at the “game of life”.
If you grew up in an abusive family or without a father, I can only imagine how hard it must have been to get out of bed and face the world. However, I hope you know that even though you may not have had a good earthly family or father, you have a heavenly Father who loves you and is with you even during those incredibly bad times. It can be very hard to trust in a Creator that allows such tragedy to happen and if I’m honest, it’s probably a big reason many don’t believe in a Higher Power.
It took a long time for this young lady to trust anyone when she had no one she could trust. But the love she received from her new friends and new family revealed that her Creator does love her and she has joy and has brought joy to all who know her now.
My encouragement to those who can relate to the above is to seek your Creator’s love that will replace what was not in the cards for you in the beginning of your earthly life.

P.S. Mrs. T. and Bmk1989 have graciously volunteered to provide the next 3 or 4 TG’s while I travel to Michigan to hopefully find tickets to see our beloved Longhorns beat the Wolverines. I’m meeting up with a few of my high school buddies (one of whom when to U of M) to watch the game and hopefully play some golf. Thank you, Mrs. T. and Bmk1989
