The sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make their minds up to be good or evil.
~~~~~~~~~~~ Hannah Arendt
How often have we found ourselves in a tough situation where we end up asking ourselves "How did I get into this mess?" If we are at the root of it, how do we respond? If someone else is harmed by our actions because we neglected to think about them, do we hold ourselves accountable? If a good friend or loved one makes it known that they need some support, some conversation, someone to listen, do we make the time?
Successful businesses and organizations have plans for their success, and every action they take, every decision they make, is evaluated by whether or not it's consistent with the plan. To have success in life, we should live in accordance with values we have set for ourselves. This is not a passive exercise; values don't install themselves. They're like an app on your phone---we must first install them, but even then if we fail to use them, our phone tells us that the app has been put to sleep for non-use. It won't be there when we need it. Every situation we encounter is different, but if we remain in touch with our values, they will help us navigate that situation and avoid having to ask that question about how the heck we got here.
God's Blessings and Peace for you all. Today we will pray for the courage to live up to the standards we have set.
NT
Proverbs 16: 3-9
In loving memory of Allen Jones, who learned, through the miracle of recovery, to allow himself to be governed by worthy values.
