Just a few weeks ago, Houston (TX) Langham Creek running back Toneil Carter was planning to enroll early at the University of Georgia. However after the Bulldogs returned two seniors at the position for next season, Carter hit a snag in his early enrollment there.
This opened up the door for the Texas Longhorns, who flipped Carter’s commitment this past week. After officially finding his future home, Carter is very happy to get his college career started soon.

“I just felt like God has a plan for everyone and that was what his plan was for me,” said Carter. “He lead me to Texas and that was where I felt like I needed to be. (UT assistant) Coach (Corby) Meekins was the one that really recruited me but looking back it was impressive to see Tom Herman and how his success has been there at every school he’s been at. It’s a big blessing to play for him and turn it around.”

New Texas head coach Tom Herman is brining a potent offensive to Austin that he had a lot of success with during his time at Houston. Carter, a Rivals250 member, has a lot of experience around spread offenses, and feels like he will fit in well with Coach Herman’s scheme.

“My high school runs a spread offense so it’s really not going to be that different for me. It’s something I have been doing for almost all of my high school career so it’s really just going from one spread school to another," Carter said. "That burnt orange will look good on me. Speed in the trenches is something they said I can bring.”

With Texas still looking for its running backs coach, it has been projected tight ends coach Meekins who did the heavy lifting for the four-star back. According to the 6-foot, 200-pounder, he and Meekins have gotten very close since his arrival to UT.

“As of right now he is a good coach and the relationship has gotten a lot stronger over the last couple weeks since I have been committed there. I just expect the relationship to get better as the days go on,” Carter said.

With Carter’s flip to Texas happening at the last minute, he wasn’t able to officially visit Texas before the dead period kicked in. However living in state, he’s been able to trip there in the past and has been very impressed with what he’s seen around campus.

“I did Texas Relays in the past so I have been there before,” explained Carter. “I can’t really say one thing I like about them. I like everything about Texas.”
