So everyone has been posting about players that should portal out - let me say that I don't disagree, I just haven't made up my mind yet.

I have a project for someone that has the time, effort & interest to complete - what is the success ratio (eventual drafting to the NFL) of players that actually transfer.

I guess what I'm asking is how good is the talent observation resulted in a positive result?

We've seen plenty of posts regarding talent and glowing reviews about various players, but how many have actually panned out? Over the past two regimes, I don't see enough.

The portal has only been around since 2018, so it’s still pretty new. Herman didn’t use it much, but what he did didn’t amount to a lot.

sark has already gotten decent mileage out of it with Keelian Robinson, Ovie Oghoufo, Ray Thornton

One question: Is "making the NFL" the right criteria to judge a transfer? How about making an All-Big12 team. That would be a sign of being a valued contributor without having to judge whether the guy meets NFL combine measurables.

Isn’t that the end goal for all NCAA Football players? To make it and then try and start?

The entire team save BJ and Rochon need to go. You can build a team around those two.

Exactly. Did you see Bijan looking back as he held his arm walking off the field. To me it looked like he didn't want to leave, like he wanted to stay to do what he could. Rochon has been a solid dude his whole time here. Worthy was limping and still going after it. I'd start with those dudes any day.

According to Roschon, Jonathon Brooks has practiced hard and we got a sampling of his talent the other night before he got hurt. If he can go Saturday well get to see what can do.

And Diablo Tejano made a good point recently. He said those guys are in a transfer portal for a good reason. And let's face it we have flat out sucked at the transfer portal. And what's worse is our hatred rival in Norman has had phenomenal success with it.

I think he looked back because he knew that his injury was season ending. He wanted one last look before walking off the field the last time.

We should have keilon robinson as well. Solid transfer. Can't wait to see the new guys. This is going to be a very different team next year. We have experienced/excellent coaching. Our players suck.

Side note: Gary Patterson was in Austin last weekend. He's buddies with Pk. You never know......

Are you suggesting a Defensive Analyst role in Austin for GP? Sark is very familiar with that structure as AL is known for bringing on very experienced ex-HCs in analyst roles.

There are tons of kids who are dying to get playing time that are just behind freaks. They want to be somewhere and get on the field. Texas can grab these kids. Sark and Co. can train them and get that "kick dat azz" attitude started.
I read that article that said Herbsteit talked to Sark before he took the job. Sark knew there was a virus. He said he had hard convos about what it would take to get it gone. Said Strong knew some of the 4 and 5 star kids weren't "dogs" but he had to recruit them or be in trouble for not going after them. I think Sark grabs kids he knows have the 1. athletic ability to play P5 football and 2. have the kick dat azz attitude that this team needs. That Bo Davis has. That PK has. This coaching staff has some skins on the walls and have been successful. They didn't forget how to coach. They have bodies on the rosters and not players. They have kids just happy to have Texas on their chest and not looking to make sure that brand isn't embarrassed.
I'm not ready to give up on this group. I think CDC knows what its gonna take. I think he's prepared to see it through. He has baseball and both BB teams rolling so that buys him some time before his job is on the line. Lets hold tight fellas and see how all this plays out. I'm not ready to give up on these coaches.
This season is done. Those recruits who recorded and laughed are going elsewhere. That is ok. Get some dogs that are ready to go to battle on that field. Sark and Co. will find them. When he gets them here......I think we begin to see results we can appreciate and be proud of.

Now............I know if Sark gets fired this will be pulled back up ;). Just my take........I'm not a coach......but I did stay at a Holiday Inn one time.........

There were recruits that took video, posted it and mocked a school that offered them a life changing opportunity?

Who were they? Probably too stupid to realize the shoe definitely finds the other foot

Those are the kids we don't want. I want the kid that sees that and thinks "I can help change this sh%^"

How does signing a bunch of transfers who are running from the adversity of their current situations create a locker room of guys with the grit and toughness to handle a bit of adversity and hard coaching.

It is what it is in today's college football environment. This isn't something that is exclusive to just Texas. All programs are trying to piece together their rosters with the transfer portal.

I wouldn’t say they are running from adversity. At least not in all cases. I mean for example. If I’m a drop back pocket passer and the new coach at my school wants to run the triple option… I’m probably not a fit. That’s not me running away it’s just knowing I’m probably a better fit elsewhere

Aix............look around the country. Our own team. X. Worthy is a portal kid. Arkansas made a huge leap through the portal. Some aren't running, they are competing with other top talent and aren't getting the nod. They are still top D1 talent.
I see what you're saying. We won't be chasing the type kids that will be in the portal from our team......Sark will go after some dogs looking for playing time that can play. Let's just kick back and watch. I could be way wrong, but I feel good about what I think Sark is doing.

Worthy wasn't a portal kid. He had already signed his LOI at Michigan and Harbaugh let him out of it.

But my point is he is a kid that realized he needed to be somewhere else. If Harbaugh hadn't, we would have been a portal kid.........

Grad transfers are not typically “running” away from adversity. There are plenty of grad transfers that were starters or major contributors in their prior stop. They graduated and decided they wanted to finish out their eligibility somewhere else.

Arkansas is a great example. They got a good DL (John Ridgeway) from the portal. He gave our OL fits. Also, Felipe Franks decided to transfer from FL after a season ending injury in 2019 after 2 seasons as a starting QB. Ended up at Arkansas in 2020 and immediately gave them some momentum.
I’m not saying Franks was a world class talent. I’m just suggesting players who can contribute immediately may be available in the portal for a number of legitimate reasons.

I’m sure there is a lot of behind the scenes recruiting between players on other teams and connections to other coaching staffs. I don’t know how much that is monitored or policed by the NCAA. The transfer portal is the free agency equivalent for NCAA sports and I hope Sarkisian is doing everything in his power to find those transfers without breaking any rules.

I'm not saying you can't get talent from the portal. I'm an OSU fan, and just look at our roster. We have a number of transfers, but they fit into a pre-existing and defined culture and filled specific holes or weaknesses within the roster, and none were expected to be the leaders in the locker room on day 1. What your talking about is bringing in a bunch of transfers to create that foundational culture of toughness and resiliency, and I simply question if that's a viable strategy.

Well you can't change the culture if what you have is unwilling to change. The only way to do it is clear them out and bring in the new............
