In North Carolina schools, teachers have been instructed, among other things, not to use the phrase "boys and girls" so as not to offend transgender students. This according to a recent training program for teachers called Supporting Transgender Students.
Probably the most disturbing aspect of the program is that teachers are warned not to "out" a transgendered student to his parents. In other words, Martin can become Martha at school, dress like a girl, use the girls' bathrooms, locker room and showers, and the parents have no right to know.
Unbelievably, gender is explained to these educators through use of the "Gender Unicorn."
