I realize with this year’s injuries, two-back sets were basically impossible early. But now that we have four healthy backs, it sure seems like an addition that could help keep defenses on their heels. With Sam, Keontay and Kirk Johnson back there or Sam, Young, Roschon, or a couple of other possible combos, linebackers and defensive ends would be forced to have stay home. That can open things up for your slot receiver. Now that Kirk J. is healthy, as explosive as he is, I feel like he could do some of the things the staff was hoping to see in Whittington out of the backfield. But he’s just sitting over there on the sideline. With Collin Johnson out or at least hampered, using some two-back sets might provide some production, stability, and another way to wear down defenses and keep ours rested. That former KSU staffer that was supposed to reshape our QB run game . . . maybe he can actually earn a little of his money now by breathing some creativity into our offense.
