And chatter amongst my Horns posse…
  • This is what we wanted — to play at the highest level. And we have been very competitive doing so. We win with a single different outcome on at least a dozen different plays. Against one of the best teams over the last half decade plus.
  • Exciting game between two great but flawed heavyweights.
  • I hate backup QBs. Has often been kryptonite for Texas. And like any team at the highest levels, including Texas, the backup QB is rarely chopped liver.
  • Biggest influences on the game…
    • Roster management - our field goal and punting game is not Championship level, and the worst I have seen in 4+ decades of watching UT football. That alone cost us the game.
    • Banks getting married has clearly not been good for UT. Special teams have been anything but.
    • Refs became part of the game. Wasn't aggregious, but made it meaningfully harder. They let teams play during Rivalry Week, but I guess wanted more air time on the bigger stage. And as several announcers have said the last couple weeks, “that was an iffy call, but as long as they call it consistently and both ways..”. Not so much this game.
    • games like this often come down to the bounce of the ball. We created 3-4 pick opportunities, and 4-5 forced fumbles we couldn't get our hands on. Just the way it goes sometimes. These things even out — hopefully over the next four games.
  • Give respect to Georgia. We made their offense look bad, and they did the same to us. Both offenses chew up weaker Ds, but great defenses do this. Chatter about Quinn, running game etc., seems like many folks just don’t watch much football, especially at the higher levels. This is what great defenses do.
  • That said, very open question about whether Quinn has “it”. Very talented, but in college, at this level, against great defenses, a mobile QB gives an advantage that is hard to top by “better” pocket play. And has there been a more dissected QB by the national media than Quinn? Guess it’s the cost of being labeled a “generational” QB.
  • We won’t give a sh*t about this game if we win it all.
