The Longhorns (26-2, 12-1) take the show on the road to face the Bulldogs (10-17, 2-11) Monday. This game will start a 3-game stretch that will determine if the Longhorns earn at least a share of the SEC regular season title. Georgia actually has a winning record in 7 games versus Texas, 5-2, but the #2 Horns dominated their last meeting 81-53 in December 2017. That was Texas' highest ranking in the Karen Aston era.

Georgia hasn't had an easy go of it this season, relying heavily on youngsters - almost 50% of their scoring and rebounding comes from freshmen. Their starting lineup has fluctuated quite a bit. No player has started every game and only 3 players have more than 20 starts in their 27 games. In the last 2 games, the starting 5 has been:
  • 5' 6" G Trinity Turner (FR) - 12.9 ppg, 4.1 rebounds, 34/125 from 3 (27.2%), 1.7 steals
  • 5' 7" G Asia Avinger (SR) - 10.1 ppg, 3.9 rebounds, 1.9 steals
  • 5' 10" G Roxane Makolo (SR) - 5.5 ppg, 3.6 boards
  • 6' 3" F Mia Woolfolk (FR) - 11.1 ppg, 5.4 rebounds
  • 6' 5" F/C Fatima Diakhate (RS-SO) - 5.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg
Key reserves include 6' 1" F Myah Verse (RS-FR) with 5.6 ppg and 6.2 rpg as well as 5' 8" G De'Mauri Flournoy (SR) who scores 11.3 ppg and their best 3-pt shooter by far (57/142, 40.1%). As is common with most freshmen, Verse and Woolfolk are prone to foul trouble. Woolfolk has been whistled for 1 foul for every 6.2 minutes of court time, slightly worse than Verse's 7.3.

The Bulldogs are 1-9 in their last 10 with a single victory against fellow SEC cellar-dweller, Arkansas. During that stretch, Georgia has turned the ball over 14.8 times per game which is actually an improvement considering they were giving it away 17.0 times through their 1st 17 games. Against Vic's defense, I'll be disappointed if the Longhorns don't push them over the 20 mark.

Texas is the 5th Top 25 ranked team Georgia has faced since 2/2 (Bama, S Carolina, Kentucky, LSU) and have been prone to slow starts in most though they were only down 30-37 against LSU at half before losing 63-79. Halftime scores against the others:
  • Bama: down 22-49
  • SC: down 15-33
  • Kentucky: down 30-45
With only 3 games left and all against teams in the bottom half of the SEC standings, the Longhorns have to remain focused and hungry to avoid a disastrous mis-step and diminishing all they have accomplished in the previous 4 games (wins over #24 Vandy, #2 SC, #8 Kentucky and #5 LSU).

More smiles from Kyla in this 2:34 than we’ve seen on the court all season.
