The Longhorns (15-1, 2-0) and the Crimson Tide (15-1, 2-0) face off as conference rivals for the 1st time. Texas knocked Alabama out of the NCAA tournament in the 2nd round last year so that might still sting a bit for them. The starting 5 for the Crimson Tide were:
Duncanville native Zaay Green took McQueen's spot in the starting 5 and leads the team in scoring (16.8 ppg) and assists (67). This is her 7th season of college ball after 2 years at Tennessee, 1 at aggy, and 3 at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. For reference, she was the 10th ranked player in the 2018 class, the same class with Charli Collier.
Sarah Barker, their 2nd highest scorer (15.6), missed their game Sunday with a lower leg injury but no word on her availability tonight. Cody leads the team in rebounds (7.0) and 4th on the team in points. The Longhorns were able to stifle Aaliyah Nye in the tourney (2/9 from 3). She has a green light to shoot as soon as they cross midcourt - she's attempted 126 3-pters through 16 games (7.9/game) and hits 45.2% so perimeter defense is critical.
Bama has good length at the guard spot but the Longhorns are the deeper squad and as long as they don't fall asleep defending the perimeter, they should be able to collect a win against a ranked SEC opponent before going on the road to face THE ranked SEC opponent, #2 South Carolina, Sunday.
