Friday 1:15PM update: Three-star linebacker David Reese has committed to Florida over Texas, Nebraska and Michigan.
*****
Friday 9:45 a.m. update - I just got a text from Cibolo Steele defensive end Mark Jackson, a Texas A&M commitment. He'll be taking an official visit to Texas.
The 6-3, 215-pound Jackson didn't give me the exact date of the visit, but did say he would be visiting Texas in January.
Thursday 4:50 p.m. update - Texas has offered DT Chris Daniels. The Rivals250 member and Euless Trinity product will announce his decision tomorrow. The plan to commit on December 18 has been in the works for about a month.
Thursday 1:40 p.m. update - Texas offered JUCO DT Handsome Tanielu a little while ago.
I just talked to Tanielu, and he does have an interest. I'll have an update posted shortly.
Tuesday 6:45 p.m. update - D'andre Christmas-Giles picks up an offer from Florida. His stock continues to rise.
In case you missed it, ATH Devin Studstill committed to Notre Dame this evening.
Monday 3:45 p.m. update - Elmore (Ala.) Edgewood Academy DE Kelvin Lucky will visit Texas on January 29.
Still a ways to go, but I do like where Texas sits in this one right now.
Sunday 9:50 p.m. update - New UT OL coach Matt Mattox met with Baylor commitment J.P. Urquidez tonight.
Urquidez, out of Copperas Cove, said Mattox is trying to get him down to Austin for a visit. I asked him if that would happen or if he's locked into his Baylor commitment and he said he's "not sure yet."
We'll follow up with him this week for a more detailed report.
Sunday 8 p.m. update - Jeffrey McCulloch names a top five. No surprise, but Texas makes the cut.
Sunday 5:30 p.m. update - And there it is, D'andre Christmas-Giles has officially opened up his recruitment.
2:35 p.m. update - Still working to gather more details, but I've heard new OC Sterlin Gilbert is already out on the recruiting trail. I've heard he's visiting an out-of-state prospect today.
2:30 p.m. update - FYI, hearing from a source that Texas did in fact make a strong impression on D'andre Christmas-Giles. The source said Christmas-Giles "loved" the visit.
We are hearing that Christmas-Giles is likely to decommit from Tennessee in the near future. When asked if the decommitment was because of the LSU offer or the Texas visit, our source said "all of it."

I'll update this thread as I hear from more guys (unfortunately, the guys who were on campus aren't the most talkative bunch but we'll keep digging around).
First off, in talking to one person (not a recruit), the weekend was described as a huge success. I'm not expecting any dramatic news to come out of the visits, but I do believe Texas made a strong impression on the uncommitted guys.
--- The LSU offer to D'andre Christmas-Giles could be a game-changer. If Texas had an uphill climb before this weekend, the slope is now much steeper. I expect that one to come down to LSU and Tennessee.
--- Texas tight end commitment Peyton Aucoin said he had a great visit, and so did everyone else.
"The visit went great. Had a blast with the players and the other commits," Aucoin said. "The whole trip overall was fun."
Aucoin said everyone's head was spinning on Friday night during the offensive coordinator search ("No one really knew what was going on"). On Saturday, once the coaches got in, Aucoin said everything went very well.
"Coach (Sterlin) Gilbert is a cool dude," Aucoin said. "Really easy to talk to. We got the chance to talk a little football at breakfast this morning."
Aucoin said he did some recruiting on the uncommitted players in attendance, including teammate Irvin Smith, and said "they all really liked it."
--- Interesting note here. I have not heard directly from Shane Buechele, but one person told me the visit went well for the Arlington Lamar quarterback. Apparently he and new OC Gilbert spent a good bit of time talking on Sunday and they were even drawing up plays on napkins. Sounds like the two hit it off pretty well.
--- Look for LB David Reese to make his announcement this week. Still feels like a Florida/Nebraska/Texas battle. I'm hoping to have more on Reese's visit at some point today.
--- Tight end Irv Smith is still committed to Texas A&M, but I was told Texas "has a good shot at him" after this weekend.
--- Also, Devin Studstill is expected to have a decision on Tuesday at 5 p.m. West Virginia, Notre Dame, Miami, Texas and North Carolina all being considered. Studstill doesn't say much and while I heard the visit went well, I'll be a little surprised if the Longhorns win out on this one.
