Friday 1:30 p.m. update - Lil'Jordan Humphrey has cut his list down to Texas and Cal.

Wednesday 9:15 a.m. -
Running back Darius Anderson has decommitted from Missouri.

I mentioned him as a possibility for Texas in the War Room last week if he decommitted. The UT staff really likes him. I'll reach out to Anderson today to try for an update, but keep an eye on this one.

Not really a surprise here, but Texas didn't make the cut for WR Stephen Sullivan. This one's been LSU and TCU for a while.

Monday 4:20 p.m update -
2016 OT Jean Delance tweeted that Texas will be in his top three schools along with Michigan and LSU. We'll try to catch up with Delance about him narrowing his focus when he's available. Obviously, a great sign for the Longhorns at a huge position of need.

Top OL target Jean Delance plans to name his top three tonight. Texas is almost a lock to make the cut.

If one could accurately gauge the excitement level of the current Texas Longhorn commitments over the hiring of new OC Sterlin Gilbert, Temple wide receiver Davion Curtis would probably sit atop the list.

As a receiver, Curtis’s position will be greatly impacted by Gilbert’s up-tempo attack and UT’s aggressive passing game. As a player who can stretch the field vertically with his speed and make plays in space with his elusiveness, Curtis’s skill set fits in perfectly for what Texas needs.

Those two factors alone have Curtis excited about the Gilbert hire, but there’s another element that puts his excitement level over the top …

Gilbert coached at Temple under current Temple head coach Mike Spradlin in 2011, and Temple runs nearly the same offense that Gilbert will be installing at Texas when the Longhorns hit the field this spring.

Key quote: “I’m just very excited about it. My high school already ran that type of offense, so I already knew a lot about it. I’m excited about it,” Curtis said. “When they told me coach Gilbert was going to be offensive coordinator, it blew me away. It gives me an extra boost over some guys because I know offense, what’s going on, what the slot has, what the outside wide receiver has. I’m just taking it day by day, but I’m ready to get to school.”

Previous relationship helping: Curtis was in eighth grade when Gilbert was calling plays for Temple, so he had some interaction with Gilbert and his offense going back several years. On top of that, Gilbert recruited Curtis while Gilbert was at Tulsa.

Those ties, plus the expectations of the new Texas offense, have Curtis excited about being a Longhorn.

“Everything falls into place really well. He’ll just be trying to get me open, get the deep ball out there. That’s what’s going to help us out next year, that’s what’s good about his offense,” Curtis said. “I haven’t talked to coach Gilbert yet, but I’ve talked to coach Norvell and coach Traylor. They asked what I thought about things, and I told them I’m excited. I said my school runs the same offense, so I have a chance to get a head start.”

Something to file away: The 6-0, 180-pound Curtis had committed to Georgia before switching to Texas shortly after the Longhorns offered. He’ll take his official visit to Texas on January 16 and said he’s looking forward to seeing what UT has to offer academically, with facilities and just talking to the coaches.

Of note, he did say other programs continue to recruit him and Curtis didn’t rule out the possibility of taking another visit or two.

I’m not for sure, really not. Tech is still talking to me, others are still looking at me but I’m not really sure who it is,” Curtis said. “They’d have to show me what really have to offer, show if I have a chance to play for them early, then maybe look at it. Maybe. Other than that, really I’m all with Texas.”

My take: I wouldn’t get too worried about this one. Curtis has always loved Texas, he committed pretty much as soon as UT offered and with the new offense, he’s a natural fit. I’ll be very surprised if he visits anywhere else, especially after he takes his Texas visit and gets some time with the UT coaches.
