Monday 4 p.m. update -
Texas has extended an offer to Baton Rouge Madison Prep DE Bryan Jones.

Jones, who is a teammate of 2016 UT signee Malcolm Roach, was hoping to make it to last weekend's junior day but didn't attend. There's a slight chance he could visit Texas this weekend. If not, look for him to make it to Austin for a spring practice.

The Texas Longhorns loaded up at the defensive tackle position in the 2016 recruiting class, but that hasn't stopped the UT coaches from identifying some top DT talent in the 2017 class. Texas has already extended a handful of defensive tackle offers, and on Friday one went out to Dallas Bishop Dunne's Damion Daniels.

Key quote: "Texas, for one, coach Strong. I like coach Strong. He recruited my brother pretty hard," Daniels said. "Their recruiting class that just came in, that turned heads this year. I think that 2016 recruiting class is going to help coach Strong get them to where he wants them to be. I think they'll be competing for a Big 12 Championship this year."

UT visit coming up?: Daniels will visit UTSA on Saturday. His dad told him they're going to try to stop by Texas on their way back from the UTSA visit.

He also plans to visit Ole Miss next week and visited LSU for a junior day last weekend.

"LSU, it's a nice place - the stadium, to the coaches to the academics and everything. It's in Louisiana, so it's not too far from home, about six hours from us," Daniels said. "My family, they think it's good. I like the coaches, coach O (Ed Orgeron), coach (Les) Miles and what he's doing with the program."

How the UT offer came about: Daniels had been receiving mail from Texas but he said the offer caught him by surprise. Bishop Dunne didn't have school on Friday and he had just returned home from a morning workout. His head coach, Michael Johnson, texted and said Texas had offered. He then saw it on twitter from none other than Jason Howell.

"That's basically how it happened. I was really happy," Daniels said. "I was really surprised. They had sent some mail and I came to one game. I DM'd coach (Brian Jean-Mary) on Twitter, thanked him for the offer."

Brotherly love: Daniels brother, Darrion, was a DT in the 2015 recruiting class that Texas recruited and offered. Darrion signed with Oklahoma State. The idea of playing with his brother is appealing, but Damion said he's keeping an open mind and not locked in for anyone.

"It would be nice to play with my brother. I would love to play with my brother," Damion said. "I like the Oklahoma State program. It's four hours from where I live. My brother picked it because he said it felt like home. Every time I go to Oklahoma State, it does feel like home. I love all the coaches there."

Not rushing into a decision: Daniels holds 17 scholarship offers as of today. The 6-2, 310-pounder is keeping all options on the table and doesn't plan to commit until late in the recruiting process.

"I'm just going to let everybody do their recruiting. I love all my offers right now," Daniels said. "I love every single school. I plan on visiting all the schools that have offered and I plan to make my commitment after my official visits."

Junior Day is over. It was tough grabbing interviews this year because the guys left immediately following the basketball game. I'll have to work the phones tonight and tomorrow to get some more updates.

A couple notes on some guys I did talk to ...

Plano East LB Anthony Hines said he had a very good visit and he enjoyed talking to Charlie Strong, as he always does. No other visits on the schedule and he continues to take things at a slow pace. Not a lot of juicy news to report on this one.

UT tight end commitment Major Tennison said he had a great visit and he heard exactly what he wanted to hear from the new coaches, especially Sterlin Gilbert. Tennison was told the tight ends will be heavily involved in the offense, especially in the passing game, which he liked hearing. He is happy with his commitment and said he feels better about things after today, but he does plan to continue to evaluate some other programs. He mentioned Michigan as a school he'll likely visit at some point.

It was a good visit for Eno Benjamin. No offer yet but he said the visit went well overall.

Texas wide receiver commitment Damion Miller said today's visit did tighten up his commitment a bit but he is still very open to visiting other places. He said if other schools invite him to their junior days, he'll likely attend. But he did have a good visit and said his commitment is stronger after today than it was before the visit.

I talked to Jalen Maden for a couple minutes and he too enjoyed the visit. The 2018 prospect was told by the UT coaches they want to watch him throw on the field this spring and summer, but he's very high on UT's radar. He doesn't have any other visits scheduled at this point.

Again, I'll work the phones over the rest of the weekend to gather some more info on some of the other guys who were in attendance. Most of them left before we had a chance to catch them for interviews.

I did exchange a couple texts with DB Kobe Boyce. He left early because his coach had somewhere to be.

Boyce said the visit was great and he's looking forward to getting back to Austin soon.

Boyce did not get an offer but he said the UT coaches talked to his coaches about possibly offering and he thinks one will come soon.

Taquan Graham has already left as well.

He said it was a great experience to get some time with the UT coaches.

Grayson Reed just left. He said Texas is at the tops of his list and he spent the whole day with Matt Mattox.
