Friday 11:30 p.m. update - A little behind on this story due to my son's baseball tournament, but Mansfield ATH Saiid Adebo just confirmed that Texas offered him tonight.
Adebo has a pretty long list of offers from schools like Arkansas, Baylor, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Baylor, Georgia, Texas Tech and others.
I'll try to catch up with Adebo this weekend to get more details and his thoughts on the UT offer.
Friday 3PM update - Sachse 2018 WR Drue Jackson visited the Texas staff per a tweet of his this afternoon. We checked with a few sources to see if he was with teammate Jalen Mayden, but were told that Mayden did not make it in with Jackson as he had a test.
Friday 11:30 a.m. update - Manvel DB Derrick Tucker has committed to A&M.
Tucker held a UT offer and was high on Texas for a long time, but the UT staff had slowed down its recruitment of him over the past couple months.
Thursday 6 p.m update - Crosby WR Mannie Netherly, who decommitted from Texas A&M recently, made a stop by the football offices today. Netherly is in town for the UIL state track meet, where he'll run the 400 meters.
Thursday 8:45 a.m. - Port Arthur Memorial DB Kary Vincent will run in the state track meet on Friday and Saturday (4X100 and 200M). He's coming in to Austin today and plans to stop by to talk to the UT coaches. Vincent doesn't know what time that meeting will happen yet, but we'll follow up with him tonight to get an update.
Tuesday 5:30 p.m. - Speaking of Boyce, he just picked up an invitation to participate in The Opening Finals in July.
Tuesday 5 p.m. update - Missed this earlier today, but UT commit Kobe Boyce picked up an offer from Oklahoma. I'll check with Boyce, but he's been pretty happy with his decision to commit to Texas so I would be surprised if there was much interest on his part.
Also, Texas WR commit Damion Miller was offered by Missouri.
Monday 10 a.m. - In one of the weirdest recruiting stories I've covered in a while, Baton Rouge Madison Prep DE Bryan Jones committed to Ole Miss last night.
Why is it so weird?
I spoke with Jones yesterday afternoon and he told me Texas was one of his favorite schools and he would be visiting UT in June. A few hours later, he commits to Ole Miss. He told me he was hoping to visit Ole Miss soon, but I don't think he's even been there yet.
Jones is the teammate of 2016 UT signee Malcolm Roach.
Monday 9 a.m. - I caught up with Arlington High kicker Chris Naggar last night to follow up.
When we last spoke to Naggar a couple weeks ago, we mentioned that he had been accepted into UT and had just applied for student housing. He was planning to get in touch with the UT staff to discuss a possible date for him to start at Texas - either for the first summer session or for the fall.
Naggar did speak with Jeff Traylor, who advised him he needed to talk to GA Ben Larson, who handles most of the place-kicking coaching duties. Naggar reached out to Larson last week but Larson is on vacation, so they're supposed to connect this week.
UT assistant coach Matt Mattox was by Arlington High recently during the spring evaluation period. Naggar said Mattox told his coach that Naggar will likely be brought in for the fall semester since he'll be coming in as a walk-on and paying his own way, but Naggar is waiting to get official word from Larson.
"I'm ready to get to Austin," Naggar said. "I will do anything to get there as soon as possible, and start working."
Regardless of when he reports, Naggar hopes to jump right into the mix for the Longhorns' place-kicking job. It sounds like the coaches believe he'll have a chance to compete for immediate playing time.
"(Traylor) basically said they're so desperate for a kicker, if I'm half as good as they think I am, I'll be fine," Naggar said.
