Seen a shocking number of people on my social media feeds defending Garrett/blaming Rudolph for their scrum. The people I know personally who are defending Garrett’s actions have never played football in their lives so I’m assuming they either don’t understand how badly it would hurt to be smacked on the crown of your skull with a helmet, or they truly think fights of that sort are commonplace in football.
I played football my whole life all the way through high school and never once witnessed anything remotely close to what Garrett did. I’ve also never seen anything like it in the NFL. I feel like there’s somewhat of an understanding when you’re on the field that it’s ok to get heated and in each other’s face but it stops at that. And in the rare occasion where it comes to blows, you certainly never swing a helmet at anyone, let alone a mans unprotected head.
What Myles Garrett did last night was truly despicable and has absolutely no place in the NFL or any other level of football. I’m still shocked so many are defending him, including our own Emmanuel Acho.
