Just curious - these guys just stop working and start looking for new jobs?

Odds are they have been calling around awhile. The writing has been on the wall for a bit.

If true about Wickline sorry that will happen. There weren't a lot of bright spots this year. But I thought our ol made steady improvement of the year, especially Connor Williams. Go look at the stats from the Baylor game I'm pretty sure Shawn Oakman didn't make a lot of tackles. After all the financial problems with OSU getting him here its a shame he didn't get to see the fruits of his coaching.

Wickline did a very good job this year, but I'm not sure his formidable positives as a technical coach actually substantially outweigh his negatives (ineffective recruiter, doesn't work very well with other staff, and disliked by too many of his players). And given how sociopathic assh*le Patterson left him to twist in the wind for so long, he may not mind a change of scenery anyway. He definitely hasn't enjoyed his time here so far.

I didn't know that side of Wickline. Especially in regards to the players. If so then it's best for everybody that he moves along.

Watson? Gone?

Probably not a trait unique to us, but it's funny how people who become disassociated with UT become slime, assholes, troublemakers, etc. sometimes shit just doesn't work out...thanks for your contributions and let's all move on.

I'd like to see Haley hit the bricks.
For sure. I think lsu let him go for a reason.

I think that many people complained about watson and wickline while they were still coaching at UT...not just after they left. Just like I don't think robinson or haley should be at Texas now. It's only an opinion on an opinion based message board.

Hell many of us thought Watson was in over his head when he was announced as a CoOC and were loudly worried when we found out months later he'd be calling the plays. I think the guy is an ok OC at a small school. And a QB coach at a real school. At best. His former players at Colorado confirmed this when he was hired. And thats without taking in to account his failed Nebraska resume later. Never liked him as a play caller.....EVER.

IMO a continuing series of Charlie's decisions, in this case re staff, have been really flawed. I get the impression that he is learning to be a head coach rather than demonstrating expertise in being one. Maybe he will figure it out, but he absolutely hasn't yet.

Wickline might not be a good recruiter but he developed some very good olines at OSU with average recruits.

I don't think Wickline was a problem. It's just collateral damage. I don't think he is the OL whisperer or anything near what he was billed as coming in. He's MO was taking leftovers (or hidden gems if you are a glass half full guy) and developing decent to good OL play. Not elite, but good to really good especially if you take into account his recruits. That's not really what we are looking for here.

May not be what you are looking for but as much as I hate to admit it when he was at OSU, his offensive line was in the top 3 in the conference and probably 1 or 2 most years.

(1) No one called anyone slime.

(2) Everything said about former assistant coaches in this thread has already been stated repeatedly, both before and during their tenures at Texas.

Exactly.

The years when they were really good yeah, but I don't think that was most years.

I'm not an osu fan but their ol under Wickline was one of the best year in and year out. Go look at their offensive numbers when he was there and look at the running game the past 2 years.

Is that Wickline that was responsible for those offensive numbers?
