What is the difference between the zebras allowing Colorado to use 5 downs to beat Missouri &

Not much.

I don't understand in an enviorment that retroactively takes away wins, championships and awards won't in situations like that overturn wins.

then allowing CMU to use an extra play to beat the Pokies?

Well, the error is equally egregious. The main difference is that in the OKSt. game, the penalty was called after time expired. It's clear that if the refs applied the rule appropriately the game would have been over and OKSt would have won.

In the 5th down game, the error was made after the 1st down play. When the Colorado QB spiked the ball on "3rd" down (really 4th) he only did so because of the previous error. The end of the game would have played out differently had the refs not made the error on 1st down.

I believe that there was an earlier 5th down in Ivy League football many years before. My father was an Ivy medical graduate and a fanatic football fan. The team that got the extra down relinquished the win. I'm thinking it was Cornell, but I'm not sure.

What happened to the Pokies should not even happen to the Aggys or the Schooners(LOL!)

In this game, Cornell ran 4 plays, and ran their 4th down play believing it was indeed 4th down. For some unclear reason, the ref got confused and gave them an additional 4th down play. It was clear to both teams that play never should have happened and Dartmouth would have ran out the remaining 3 seconds. The blunder did not occur until after the 4th down play was run.

In the Colorado game, the error was made after 1st down and therefore affected all of the plays thereafter. Had the error not occurred, CU would have employed different play calling and the outcome of this alternate scenario is unclear.

Looked it up myself. Agreed. True sportsmanship.
