For all the teeth grinding surrounding presidential candidates, I think a big part of the problem is that generally we are too shallow in our criteria of what makes a good president.
I'll bet that looks play a subconscious part. Then we put unrealistic expectations on how much one person can be an expert in many many subjects. How can you be an expert on the economy, foreign relations, the military, law, etc.
I think it's more about who you surround yourself with as it is your expertise. Being a good leader is important.
And for sure nobody is perfect yet we constantly watch for faults and then act as if we are surprised.
