I go back to 1964 when after Texas beat ou 28-7, it played #7 Arkansas. That game denied DKR back-to-back NCs and gave Arkie a NC in non-AP/Coaches polls (since the two prominent polls selected NCs before the bowl games although the Horns beat #1 Bama/Bryant/Namath, in the first night Orange Bowl.) Most of you were not born then. You have any more recent seasons where the game after ou overshadowed it?
The next time I recall the Horns having such an important game in October other than ou and Arkie '64 was in '70 when Texas was also playing for a back-to-back NC for DKR against UCLA. QB Eddie Phillips hit Cotton Speyer on a 45-yard TD with 12 seconds on the clock. I was, 15, and at that game. But that was the Saturday before ou.
