The Atlantic had a good article about four theories regarding Donald Trump supporters.
1) They Didn’t Go to College
2) They Don't Think They Have a Political Voice
3) They Want to Wage an Interior War Against Outsiders
4) They Live in Parts of the Country With Racial Resentment
Trump is getting the majority of his support from middle aged white men making less than $50K who don't have a college degree. Trump's simple and visceral solutions speak to them in a way that just don't make any sense when you think about it. You can't be too smart if you think he can force another country to pay for a wall and still maintain good relations with that country. You would have to be uneducated to think you could design a test for customs agents to perform at borders to weed out all the Muslims trying to enter the country.
None of my Republicans friends and family support Donald Trump. One of my buddies is an attorney and he constantly laments on Facebook about Donald Trump. My brother-in-law and sister (both college educated) don't like Trump but will still vote Republican. My wife (master's degree) is from Kansas and is repulsed by Trump. She has a lot of college friends from Kansas on Facebook and she never sees support for Trump from her politically active friends. My mother-in-law (also college educated) is a staunch Fox News watcher and she abhors Donald Trump.
Interestingly, the article points out that the Republican party has a dividing line that is drawn with whether one has a college degree or not. Mitt Romney had firm support of college educated Republicans but only so so support of non-college degree Republicans. Trump is the exact opposite.
So I'm sure there are people on this board who will respond on this board..."I have a college degree and I earn more than $50K a year so there!" That's great..you are not the majority of Trump's fanbase. My question to those of you is how many of your college educated friends support Trump?
