We do. We glorify killing in our movies, in our video games, in our literature and in our music. Our young people are immersed in it. The "hero" is often the one who has the most sophisticated weapons and kills the most people. And the more realistic and gory the better. We devalue human life by allowing it to be terminated for convenience, by allowing the more unfortunate of us to die in the streets for lack of food, shelter and drug treatment, and by dealing rather cavalierly with those who could help stop it but instead profit by it. And then when something like Covenant occurs we wring our hands, ask "why does this happen?" and then for lack of a suitable answer blame the weapons.
