Comey is in this situation because he made promises to Congress that he would keep them abreast of any updates. Why? He does not answer to Congress. He answers to the AG who answers to the POTUS. On top of that, it is FBI policy to not comment on active investigations. This guy has made a complete hash of this and has likely impacted a presidential election just to cover his ass.
