The BOR calls you for a meeting and then hands you a blank check and says go hire the best Coach in College FB at any cost, who would you hire, hint: you only get 1 choice and no comparisons and no more than 1 choice.

And then hands you another check for a BB Coach that is the best and says the same...

Only 2 names at the bottom here, no this guy or this guy crap

You got the money now go buy! Money doesn't matter even if you can buy them from another team

FB Coach:..........

BB Coach...........

Well hell if I have a blank check, I'm calling Bill Belicheck and make him turn down a 20 million a year job. My second call is to Dabo Sweeney and make him do the same thing. Third call is to John Harbaugh. Someone is going to get a 5 year 100 million dollar contract.

For basketball, I'd hire Chris Beard, if he says no, my next call is to Tom Izzo. Make those guys say no to a 12 million a year contract. My third choice is John Calapari.

The lesson in all this.

Never give me a blank check, I'll use it.

I'd give Pete Carroll, Nick Saban and Urban Meyer each a consulting fee to help make the choice. The first 2 are too old and Urban comes with too much baggage. I don't want them. I want the up and coming coaches that they recommend. Each gets his fee only if we manage to hire someone in his top three, and for each assistant coach in their list that ends up on the staff.

It's not a one-time fee. If Pete, Nick or Urban recommended our head coach, then he gets a payoff for playoff games and wins, and especially for national championships.

But to play your game, Dabo Swinney's not a bad pick. Lincoln Riley, maybe?

For BB, I just don't know enough to say anything meaningful. Do the same consulting thing with Krzyzewski and couple others.

Billy Donovan. I doubt he wants to leave NBA for college recruiting but I think OKC contract may be expiring after this season. Did or will he sign extension? Probably winds up back East with Sixers but maybe money talks.

When Texas was at its best with Mack, Barmes, and Augie they hired 3 guys with a good amount of experience, so if I was CDC that is what I would be looking at. As I do this keep in mind im trying to be as realistic as possible. If Dabo leaves Clemson its for Alabama or the NFL, so I am leaving names like that out of the discussion.

Football
My top 2 targets that are somewhat realistic
Urban Meyer- I think he probably will coach again either in the NFL or another college

Chris Peterson- He didnt seem to rule out coaching again... timing may be off here but id call him.

PJ Fleck- In 7 years as a HC hes already taken 2 programs to their best seasons in school history. Whatever blue blood that hires him will win multiple titles imo

Basketball
Billy Donovan-Ive heard that he does have some interest in going back to the college game... You certainly make the phone call

John Beilein- Proven guy why not?
Brad Underwood- Built the SFA program, won in his one year at ok state and has Illinois headed in the right direction .

Frank Martin-won at Kstate, got to the National title game at South Carolina. The image he has on TV isnt really who he is. He is a good man, a heck of a coach and players love him

Scott Drew would hurt Baylor and help Texas dude does more with less. If Herman gets canned. Not sure if a proven coach other than Urban would be available? Patterson with Texas talent would be dangerous. We should have got Briles before the scandle and already would have a few National Championships or if Clown Brown had stepped down Sabin would have had Texas on top as well!

Why do we have to make the "splash" hire in men's bb? Look at what TT and Baylor have done taking coaches from small schools and
bringing a winning tradition to schools that had none at all. Now Chris Del Conte came from a school like TCU so I'm hoping he's got a network of top notch coaches from the same type of schools that Beard and Drew came from. Guys that are ready for the big time.

Contrast that with Barnes and Penders who wore out the welcome and should have been replaced sooner than they were. And they were "splash" hires you remember that don't you?Right now CDC is off to a good start but he hasn't had to make a big hire yet and because of that I'm taking a wait and see with the man.

My .02 worth

I can see Urban but Peterson has clearly lost any fire he had imo. He bowed out gracefully.

i don't think peterson or fleck are upgrades. frankly, herman may be good if he'll stop the embarrassing/childish crap-- the oklahoma state deal, etc.

as for hoops, i think you ask donovan. if you get word back that it's a hard no, you go to beilein if you're just hard and fast against pitino. beilein is really really good. pitino is the best college coach ever-- i'm not backing off that (and you gotta figure austin "escorts" are much hotter than louisville "escorts").

y'all scoffed at my notion of underwood a year or so ago because he had not yet gotten the talent level up and was struggling to get footing at illinois. some of you are a little wishy-washy (see:ash, chris) and think EVERY SEASON MUST BE EXCEPTIONAL! well, sometimes, you do the best you can with what you have. before shaka reads this and says "yeah!", let me splain that if you're in year 5, you should be making headway, not regressing.

anthony grant is solid (dayton). chris mack isn't leaving louisville but call him. same with mark few. there's a guy at tennessee that's doing pretty well.

last year was the time to strike, with hoiberg, musselman, buzz open to leaving their places. but it could still wind up okay if donovan or beilein fall into our laps. if pitino comes, somebody else should be on our laps, and i hope she wiggles

You may be right on Peterson that’s why I say timing is probably off there I fully expect him to coach again only because most guys end up coming back. But probably wouldn’t be ready when we are.

CDC did not hire Pierce.

CDC hired the current softball coach who is kicking ass and ranked #4.
Yeah CDC hiring mike white gives me hope for what he will do in future searches. He went out and got the best he could find.

Fleck is a better coach than Herman right now. I mean western Michigan had never had a double digit win season. Minnesota had its best season in 100 years. These are programs with very little history, recorded of success, and he’s having success. To me when I look at coaches that matters. Herman may end up being a good coach now that he has what appears to be a better staff and matures more, but he’s not there yet.

Yeah I just don’t think the Pitno thing is going to happen. No doubt he’s one of the best ever I just don’t think you go down that road. What he allowed to occur is pretty bad. I have always liked Brad underwood since he and frank martin were at k state under Huggins. I think he’d kill it at Texas.

Look at Stoops. XFL. Sure he’s getting paid but hell he should have stayed retired. I can’t think the XFL will work out too good for him plus it’s a league of has beens and never was’s.

I expect stoops to coach in college or that NFL at some point. Sounds like he listened to Florida State.

Well even as a Sooner fan, I wouldn’t hire him now. No fire. He just wants to compete that’s it

you might have a point... except hes already won a championship
Yes I know he has a championship, I thought you were talking going forward? Did you miss the last 10 years of his coaching at OU? He won the conference but outside of that it was pretty sketchy. He’s older now and coasting imo

His last 4 years at OU he went 41-11 with two sugar bowl wins and a playoff birth. As a Texas fan I wish Mack Brown’s “coasting” at the end looked like Bob Stoops lol

Put it this way, I don’t know any OU fans complaining that Stoops gave way to Riley
