Anyone else remember when in 1980 NBC decided to broadcast a meaningless end-of-season game between the Jets and the Dolphins without announcers? As much as many of us like to complain about the quality of announcing, this experiment was just too strange and was never repeated. I thought I would really like it, but realized after a quarter or so that even bad announcing might be better than none at all. Legendary announcer Dick Endberg said they were all scared to death it would catch on, but after watching they realized they had nothing to worry about.
