Big 12 Tournament
The Horns head North to Arlington to play in the Big 12 Tournament, Arlington being the site of horrors for the Horns. All time, the Horns are 5-11 in Arlington and have lost the last 6 games, with the last win coming in the Big 12 tourney against Oklahoma State in 2022.
Taking a look back at Texas Big 12 tournament history, there hasn’t been a massive amount of success, but that is also largely based on the fact that the Horns would not focus on the tournament as they looked ahead to hosting Regionals.
Big 12 Championship Titles (Last): 5 (2015)
Big 12 Championship Record: 46-37
If Texas wins the first game against Texas Tech, they will get Wednesday off and will play on Thursday evening at 730pm. If Texas loses to Texas Tech, they will be back in action on Wednesday at 4pm against the loser of UCF v. Cincinnati in an elimination game.
As for the Horns matchup against the Red Raiders, there are two ways to look at it. The Horns are either getting the Red Raiders at the perfect time (a massive down swing), or the Red Raiders are going to be dangerous and throw the kitchen sink at the Horns to win game one. The x factors are how poorly the Red Raiders have played against Quadrant 1 RPI teams and on the road, while the x factory for Texas is how poorly they have played in Arlington. All time, the Horns are 5-11 in Arlington and have lost the last 6 games at Globe Life Field.
Both teams can hit the ball, we all know that, but Texas pitches a little better and fields a bit better than the Red Raiders, so I give the Horns the edge in the first round matchup.
Through 55 games, here is a comparison to the Horns record in previous seasons and where they ended up.

2020: >> Season Cancelled
2021: (40-13) >> 2nd overall national seed - CWS

2023: (37-18) >> 2 seed - Super Regional

Yup…I’ll own that loss, but at least I had Texas in the Top 3 and I guessed two of three bottom feeders. The rest was a BIG swing and miss!
