OT: Will AI replace your GP?

From John Ellis’s News Items this morning:

Dr. Adam Rodman, an expert in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, confidently expected that chatbots built to use artificial intelligence would help doctors diagnose illnesses. He was wrong. Instead, in a study Dr. Rodman helped design, doctors who were given ChatGPT-4 along with conventional resources did only slightly better than doctors who did not have access to the bot. And, to the researchers’ surprise, ChatGPT alone outperformed the doctors. “I was shocked,” Dr. Rodman said. The chatbot, from the company OpenAI, scored an average of 90 percent when diagnosing a medical condition from a case report and explaining its reasoning. Doctors randomly assigned to use the chatbot got an average score of 76 percent. Those randomly assigned not to use it had an average score of 74 percent. (Source: nytimes.com)

COSM - TX vs A&M

They sold out in minutes. I have been waiting weeks for tickets and kept checking the link. They went from not offering tickets to SOLD OUT in less than an hour between checks.
I am annoyed and wanted to vent.
Anyone get tickets? My wife and I were going to meet our son (stationed at Ft Sill in OK) for the game and a late Thanksgiving Day celebration.

Every Pass - Arkansas (2nd Half)

If you missed the 1st half, it can be found HERE. Less pass attempts in the 2nd half as it became about possessions and the clock. We had 6 possessions in the 1st half and only 4 in the second half with the final possession becoming more about killing the clock to win the game and less about putting the ball in the endzone to expand the lead.

In the first half we did very little to establish the run and Sark came out determined in the 2nd half to do just that running the ball two times in a row to start our first possession. We'll take a look at all the pass plays but it's key to point out that Blue's production in the second half is probably the critical reason we were able to move the ball more effectively.

Pass 1 - An effective run game creates opportunities like this. Arkansas gets out of the 3 high zone look and goes to a man coverage here on 3rd and short and completely blows it. Nobody goes with the back and we have Golden coming free on the mesh. Easy money.

Pass 2 - Another opportunity against man and Ewers just misses this one filling the space where the defender blitzes from. I don't necessarily love the fact that this is Helm trying to beat a DB. He has the size but if this were a WR it's a free run into the end zone. Regardless, Ewers needs to put this on his numbers and it's a bad throw.

Pass 3 - Two-man TE concept up top and they just run nearly into the same area. Miscommunication on the play call as someone did not run the correct route. Everything else is dead, Wingo needs to hang on to this for a minimal gain as 3rd and 9 is better than 3rd and 12.

Pass 4 - Again with the 3 high look on 3rd and long. Wingo is coming underneath here but it's not enough for a 1st down. Helm is doing the right thing but the Middle LB is leaking his direction off the hash and the CB is peeping this one to jump it. Ewers want's Bolden here and if Bolden quits running into coverage, and does the same thing Helm is doing, this is an easy first down. This is basic level zone defense recognition. Bolden has to see this. Banks gets blown by. Ewers escapes and puts a ball on the money that gets dropped by Bolden. These are the areas of the game where we miss J-Witt.

Pass 5 - This is a really good play call against the 3 high. Bond hasn't played a great game so far but this is an excellent route. If you watch him through the route he sells this as him takin off deep and then he just comes back in the zone. Ewers working this right to left and this might be his first perfect rep of the day when you include things like footwork, pocket awareness, and timing.

Pass 6 - Wants Helm in the middle of the field first but it's locked up. Referenced this on a play in the fist half where Quinn and Helm were not able to connect near the sideline. Davis gets outside the numbers and then comes back, and my personal belief is that this is what Helm needed to do in the first half. Sark likes people catching the ball on the move. Taking what you can get here. Ewers has everything cooking with his footwork.

Pass 7 - Not a lot needs to be said here. This is just a fantastic throw and catch. Golden has some hands on him.

Pass 8 - Not in love with this play call as this is a low percentage shot when we need to possess the ball. However this is a misread by Quinn and he needs to rip this thing to Wingo at the top of the screen. He finally has nobody underneath him. We don't know what's called through the headset here but Bolden isn't the guy you want to be taking the deep shots to.

Pass 9 - Sark earning that paycheck. We know they are going to bail out and we know they need to make a stop here to get the ball back so the D-line is going to have their ears pinned back to get to Ewers. Just a beautiful play call and very good execution. Welcome back to the show Blue.

Ball game. 20-10.

Again, some good, some bad, some great in the passing game from Quinn. When the offense sputters at times he is the reason. More often than not, he is not the reason. On to take a look at the Kentucky defense which has been nasty at times this season.

PSA: Beware Healthcare.gov May Auto Enroll You Into A Plan You Didn't Sign Up For

My current health insurance plan for this past year has pulled out of Texas, so I was advised to find another plan on the Healthcare.gov website. I was eligible to enroll on November 1st, so I signed in to find a new plan. I signed up for a new plan last week.

Then, one week later I find that I had been auto enrolled in a different plan that the website recommended. I'm thinking what the hell?

I'm on the phone (on hold) to cancel the auto enrolled plan.

I encourage those of you who's plan has expired or was pulled from your state to sign up ASAP before the "Marketplace" auto enrolls you into a plan that may not fit your needs or providers that you want.

Sheesh, still on hold, over 24 minutes to cancel something I DIDN'T sign up for!

Aggie Gametime 11/30/24

I allowed myself to look ahead and see that SEC has us and Aggies "flexed for a 2:30pm or 6-8pm kickoff", in the experts opinion there is no way we get lucky and this isn't a night game is there? I'd imagine it being one of the highest rated CFB TV broadcasts of the year? or is post thanksgiving prime-time tied up with Christmas specials etc so the 2:30pm broadcast will get more eyeballs and advertising dollars than a night time window?

Travis Hunter; would you want him here? Fabulous talent, both offensively and defensively. But would he ruin the culture Sark has perfected? I know it is unlikely, but if Sanders took the FSU job and his son went NFL, would Hunter perhaps test the NIL market in portal? We would probably be outbid, just because we don't want one player paid way more than the rest of the team. But what if he wanted to come here to play with Arch? An example below is an amazing interception by Hunter, then after the play they get four (4), yes 4, unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

2:42 AM November 18, 1999

The night was black as coal when 58 people showed up to their hallowed ground, preparing a tradition that dated back to 1907. Over 1 million pounds of logs were stacked and ready to burn when the horrific sound of creaking began. Then, it happened: what sounded like a gunshot, the middle structure of the bonfire snapped in half, collapsing within seconds. The ensuing dust and debris field darkened the lights illuminating the once structure. Cadets, knowing they would face certain combat after graduation, stood frozen at the scene. Many of those who heard the warning screams survived; those on the stack who screamed the warnings didn’t survive. The horror played out, in real time, and people from all over Texas traveled to the campus of Texas A&M to help. Texas ended up canceling the Hex rally that year, and opted for a unity event. The UT Tower was darkened out of respect for those whom had been lost. During halftime, the Texas Band would play “Amazing Grace” and “TAPS”.

Tonight, at 2:42 AM, will mark 25 years since 12 Aggies took their last breath.

Jaydon Blue / Game Thoughts

I thought our game was definitely one I’d take in a heartbeat given the result. Double digit win. On the road. Rivalry game. Opponent who beat the fake UT too.

Defense was nails. Jahdae Barron was nails. Collins has his best game of his career here.
Our entire D was superb!

Offensively, we left some room for improvement. I think Quinn made some really good throws. He also made not so good ones and also stepped into sacks and literally tripped himself for one sack. Offense wasn’t as bad as it seemed. Non-PI call plus victory formation at 2min with ball around Arky 20 is more like a 20-point win. For those glass half empty people - you further validate why I have glass half full people in my life.

Here’s the topic I really want to stress: Jaydon Blue.

If that game. If that 4th quarter….particularly the drive we responded to their FG with our TD isn’t convincing that he has far more talent than any healthy RB we have I just don’t know what to say. I highly encourage a rewatch of that drive. He extended multiple runs…with multiple missed tackles, and extra yards. The screen play.
The run to the outside he broke (yes he fumbled but that was a more forgivable…blind, arm hammer strip one than the ones from the past).

Put it this way: if Blue wasn’t our feature that drive, I don’t see us marching down and essentially crushing Arky’s momentum and essentially sealing the game. That drive for me was the BLUE drive and that drive has the narrative on this game being far more glass full than empty, no matter which take you previously had.

If we want to help improve our offense for the last 1/3rd of this season, Blue needs to be our feature back. It’s really that simple.
