Texas State - 7
BOX SCORE

Horns split the mid-week series against Texas State, where once again for the third year running, the away team wins each game.

The Horns are now 20-14 overall and 7-5 in Big 12 play.

Winning Pitcher: Taylor Seay (2-0)
Losing Pitcher: Easton Tumis (3-1)

RECAP

On Tuesday night, the Horns went down to San Marcos and got things going early as Porter Brown crushed a 3 run home run to give the Horns the early lead and starter Chase Lummus battled back after a tough 1st inning to throw 5 innings of 1 hit baseball. While the weather prevented the Horns and Bobcats from finishing the game on Tuesday night, they did play the 9th and final inning on Wednesday evening, which saw Texas close it out for a 9-1 win.

Just an hour later, Game Two started between the Horns and Bobcats. Easton Tumis got the start for the Horns and for 3 innings, was very good on the mound. Unfortunately, Tumis ran out of gas in the Top 4th, giving up back to back walks and a single to load the bases after getting the first batter via strikeout. That is when things went pear shaped for the Horns as the bullpen, which has been very hit or miss this season, gave up the ball game.

Luke Harrison came in and immediately walked a run in, followed by a 2 run RBI single to give the Bobcats the 3-0 lead. Freshman RHP Cole Selvig then came in and immediately gave up a 3 run blast to RF, when he left a breaking ball ball hanging over the heart of the plate, making it 6-0 Texas State and putting the Horns in a deep hole.

In the Bottom 5th, the Horns got a pair of runs back to make it a 6-2 ball game, as Jared Thomas got hit by a pitch, followed by a double by Peyton Powell. Thomas would score from 3B on a wild pitch and then Max Belyeu would drive in Powell when he hit a double of his own, but that was all the Horns could come up with.

In the Top 6th, the Bobcats would get a run back as Hudson Hamilton led off with a walk, then gave up a double down the LF line that was extremely questionable, as the ball went foul, but the Ump ruled it came off Powell's glove. Andre Duplantier would come in relief and on the first pitch he threw, induced a fly ball to shallow LF, which was caught by Porter Brown. Unfortunately, Brown did not have enough mustard on his throw home and the Bobcats were able to tag up and plate the run, making it 7-2 Texas State.

In the Bottom 7th, the Horns would get their last run of the evening as Jared Thomas hit a 1 out solo blast to RF, his 10th of the season, to make it 7-3 Texas State, but the Horns again came up empty as Jalin Flores grounded into a double play, ending the frame.

On a night when the wind was gusting from left to right, the Horns offense looked completely off kilter, failing to get anything going and being very inconsistent. Horns got production from Thomas, Powell, Max, and Kimble, but no one else recorded a hit except for a lone single by Dee Kennedy.

BIG MOMENT

The 3 run home run by Alex Gonzalez in the Top 4th, who entered the game tonight with just two hits on the season, was an absolute back breaker. Once the Horns were down 6-0, you could just feel the entire game change and there simply did not seem like the Horns had a chance to come back and win at all.

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE

Jared Thomas went 2-4 on the evening with a HR and 2 runs scored, as well as a hit by pitch. The draft eligible sophomore continues to lead the offense for the Horns as he is still hitting over .400 on the season and now is 4th in the Big 12 in home runs with 10 on the season.

TAKEAWAYS

After winning the first game 9-1, it felt like the Horns could gain some momentum heading into the weekend series at Houston, the last place team in the Big 12. Instead, the bullpen will need to quickly forget this one and the offense will need to regroup and put things back together after an a loss to Texas State, which certainly does not help the already beleaguered Texas RPI.

NFL Kick-off Rule Change

This will be interesting...

https://operations.nfl.com/updates/...5KO6GMsfXHP_ufJxY36AIucRfhPDLEoGmEYdDiRVaL6P9

The Competition Committee has passed for one year changes to the kickoff play:

  • The ball is kicked from the A35 yard line (same as current rule)
  • Safety kicks would be from A20 yard line (same as current rule)

ALIGNMENT

  • All kicking team players other than the kicker will line up with one foot on the receiving team’s B40 yard line
    • Kicker cannot cross the 50-yard line until ball touches the ground or player in landing zone or end zone
    • The 10 kicking team players cannot move until the ball hits the ground or player in the landing zone or the end zone
  • The receiving team will line up as follows:
    • Setup Zone – a 5-yard area from the B35 to the B30 yard line where at least 9 receiving team players must line up
      • At least 7 players with foot on the B35 yard line (restraining line) with alignment requirements (outside numbers, numbers to hashes, and inside hashes)
      • Players not on the restraining line must be lined up in setup zone outside the hash marks
      • All players in the setup zone cannot move until the kick has hit the ground or a player in the landing zone or the end zone
    • A maximum of 2 returners may line up in the landing zone and can move at any time prior to, or during, the kick

LANDING ZONE

  • Landing zone is the area between the receiving team’s goal line and its 20-yard line.
  • Any kick that hits short of the landing zone – treated like kickoff out of bounds and ball spotted at B40 yard line; play would be blown dead as soon as kick lands short of the landing zone
  • Any kick that hits in the landing zone - must be returned
  • Any kick that hits in the landing zone and then goes into the end zone – must be returned or downed by receiving team – if downed then touchback to B20 yard line
  • Kick hits in end zone, stays inbounds - returned or downed – if downed then touchback to B30 yard line
  • Any kick that goes out of the back of the end zone (in the air or bounces) – touchback to B30 yard line

MISCELLANEOUS

  • No fair catch or signal is allowed. Officials will blow the play dead
  • If conditions cause ball to fall off tee twice, then kicker will be allowed to use kicking stick to keep the ball in place. The closest covering official will pick up the stick immediately after the kick
  • Onside kick:
    • 4th quarter begins, the team trailing has the opportunity to declare an onside kick to the officials
    • Current onside kickoff rules would apply. If onside kick goes beyond the setup zone untouched, kicking team penalized for UNS; return team would start the drive at the A20 yard line
  • Penalties:
    • The setup zone and landing zone will not change with any penalties that carry over to kickoffs. Alignment of 10 kickoff team players and all receiving team players would not change – only the spot of the kick would move
    • Penalties on scoring plays will not carry over and will be taken on the Try
    • Penalties on the Try may carry over, and if they do, only the placement of the kicker will change
  • Safety Kick:
    • The kick will be from the 20-yard line, and the kicker will have the option to use a tee; the setup zone and the landing zone will not change
  • Approved Rulings: The special teams working group will continue to work with the Officiating department to examine any necessary approved rulings and/or additional language that may be necessary to support this new rule. This language will be vetted with the clubs, circulated for comment to all the clubs, and finalized by the May meeting for the membership

Mater Dei wide receiver Marcus Harris tells me he's in Austin tonight. The Rivals100 member will be stopping by campus tomorrow for a visit. Harris, who has visited UT a handful of times already, has a Texas official visit locked in for June 21.

Harris recently dropped a top five of Texas, Oregon, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. We'll try to connect with him tomorrow after his visit to see how things go.

Code Pink’s red hands is off the chart awful

The scumbag Hamas Palestinian who murdered an IDF soldier waved his bloody hands and now the Leftists punks think this is cool? Two IDF soldiers took a wrong turn (before Oct 7th attack) and were captured, beaten, and murdered by Palestinians. I doubt any of the Hamas supporters will even read this article. Complete dumbasses who paint their hands red should be locked away.

In honor of Masters Week… you know you’re an old if:

*you are still sportin’ a 1 iron in your bag.
*you remember Norman’s epic back nine collapse against Faldo.
*you feel some sense of what Augusta can do to a man’s internal demons after watching Weiskopf’s 4 second place finishes with the amount of talent he had.
*you remember marveling at how Fred’s ball stayed out of Rae’s on 13.
*you remember Ben’s putt on 10 in ‘84.
*you remember Carl’s embrace of Ben in his ‘95 win just days after Harvey passed.
*you remember Nicklaus’ putt on 11 in ‘86 with that putter the size of a croquet mallet.
*you first learned this greatest game ever invented using laminates and remember feeling the joy of graduating up to persimmon.
*you learned the game at Hancock when it was affectionately called “the Rock”.

San Antonio OBs PSA - Stone Oak Starbucks

Totally debunks Barkley's view on San Antonio women.

I don't know what is going on around here, there must be some Yoga or Pilates studio.

Highly recommend sitting in the morning if you are visiting from out of town and need a place to work.

The expected San Antonio woman slips in, but in general solid scenery and proper Yoga Pants bodies running around.
