Trump is getting played by Putin. Putin smells his desperation for a “deal” the same way he smelled Biden’s weakness. When is Trump going to take a hard line with Putin like he has with virtually everybody else, especially our allies?

Trump described the talks as productive while the Kremlin said there were reasons to be cautiously optimistic following a meeting in Moscow between Putin and the U.S.’s special envoy Steve Witkoff. On Thursday, Putin had said he didn’t support an immediate pause in fighting because it would give Ukraine’s forces a battlefield reprieve and a host of issues needed to be worked out.
We had very good and productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia yesterday, and there is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end,” Trump wrote in a social-media post on Friday.

Later Friday, Putin said that he was sympathetic to Trump’s call and if the Ukrainians lay down their arms and surrender, they would be “guaranteed life and dignified treatment.” He called on Ukraine to issue an order to its units to surrender as prisoners of war.
