Finished it today. Really well done. Makes me want to go rewatch this past season of Narcos. Didn’t realize that KiKi still hasn’t found justice for his murder.

I think what sucked the most was at the end when they talked about the 4 million (or was it 5) that was given to them as a payoff. ouch. wth.

Well done and one of the best docs I’ve watched. Pretty obvious our government had a hand in Kiki’s abduction and murder. Who do y’all think was the anonymous call at the end? One of the 3 cartel leaders?? Who was the DEA agent who’s name they hide at the end? I’m thinking it was Kiki’s boss.

Yeah, there were only four total agents at the time i think, and one of them was sent much earlier and they spoke to some supervisor, so they are clearly alleging that it was Kuykendall which sucks it it is true. I also didn't know that Kuykendall had testified kind of on behalf of Zuno Arce.

I’m enjoying this show but that’s a very strange comparison. The Last Narc is a historical documentary and the others are drama/action shows based on actual events. Just two completely different genres.

Is there any reading involved? I’m out if the whole thing is in Spanish with subtitles

The whole thing is not in Spanish.

However, yes, there’s a lot of Spanish subtitles because you’re hearing from 3 men that actually were involved in DEA Agent Kiki Camarena’s abduction, while working as bodyguards for the Cartels, and then were subsequently recruited by DEA Agent Hector Berrellez to find out exactly what happened to Camarena - which is horrific.

It’s easy to follow, so not watching because you have to read some Spanish subtitles is just plain silly.

To each his own.

Binged this yesterday. Did some digging around and found this quote from Jaime Kuykendall that was in heavy.com in 2018:

In later years, Kuykendall has spoken out about the CIA and the Kiki Camarena murder. Kuykendall is quoted in the book Whiteout: The CIA, Drugs, and the Press by Alexander Cockburn. The book alleges that DEA officers investigating Camarena’s death “knew that the drug agent’s murder was a joint operation between the drug cartel and the DFS, an agency with intimate ties to the CIA.”

Kuykendall said, “The CIA didn’t give a damn about anything but Cuba and the Soviets. Indirectly, they (the CIA) have got to take some of the blame.” He alleged the CIA “protected the DFS for decades,” and stated “The DFS just got out of hand.”

Highly recommend if you watched Narcos Mexico. Some crazy shit.

what do you think about the dea agent that sold kiki out though? think it was kuykendall? there has to be some merit to the comments that dea agents were paid though. they asked kiki when he was being interrogated about the money that he supposedly took (which he denied).

That was my first thought especially since Kuykendall didn’t go on camera. Kuykendall is a south Texas guy and according to google still has a real estate appraisal company in Laredo and also does some security stuff.

Some of these guys seem like actors. Maybe it’s the way the interviews are shot but the Mexican cop in the uniform (Jorge Godoy) seems like a bad actor. Also, Hector Berrellez describing the raid on a suspected drug front / store while waiving a gun around to illustrate the story was weird. At least he had trigger discipline!

Those two guys come off a little odd, but I’m still enjoying the doc.

I'm with you with Godoy, but I thought Berrellez was very genuine and most of his comments/stories were verified by Jack Lawn (DEA Administraotr) the US District Attorney, and Mike Holm (whom I forgot what his titel was). Oh and Phil Jordan too who rose to a very high rank within the DEA. All still speak greatly of Berrellez.

Think Godoy is not all there mentally.

I think the fact they interviewed all 3 Mexican Federales independently and kept them separated and they all pointed to the same guy in the room says everything you need to know.

Won’t say any more for those watching

Didn’t mean to infer they were lying. Just that they were odd characters. More so with Godoy.

Agree. Had to be his boss. Great series. All I know is our government was up to some extremely shady shit.

Thanks for the heads up. Watched the whole thing tonight. Wow, that was good.

The most intense and troubling moment in this series is when a decorated, lifelong DEA agent who put his life on the line to stop drug trafficking, stared into the camera and basically told us what we all should already know. The war on drugs is a front to make and move money for US black ops. Now I don’t know that it’s anywhere near that cut and dried, but the amount of money generated by drug traffic is enough to buy our govt officials every day and twice on Sunday.

Watched the first two episodes and it's been very interesting so far. Didn't know DFS was basically created by the CIA. CIA is about as dirty an organization as there is. Really saddens me as an American.
I believe the men in this documentary, and if certain agents/factions in the CIA and DEA did sell out their own agent, aiding in his abduction and subsequent torture - horrific torture - then may God have mercy on their souls.

They have blood on their hands.

I had the same reaction initially. By the time I finished it, my take was that Godoy is just a strange cat and likely mentally disturbed from being a part of the Cartel activities.

The whole Mexican Cartel world is fascinating to me in the same way the Italian Mafia is. The CIA’s involvement in the drug trade has long been known, but I never would’ve believed they could’ve been complicent in KiKi’s murder. That was shocking and disappointing, to say the least.

Great recommendation, OP
