The Texas Longhorns already have one quarterback committed in the 2020 recruiting class in Rivals250 member Hudson Card, but with the fluidity at the quarterback position in today’s college football world, it always makes sense to explore multiple options. Recently, the Longhorn QB depth chart took a substantial hit with the transfer of Cameron Rising and the decision by Shane Buechele that he would enter the transfer portal and likely leave after the spring semester. Redshirt freshman Casey Thompson did decide to stay at UT after putting his name in the transfer portal, but with the way things can change in a hurry, the UT staff is keeping an eye on other quarterback options in the 2020 class.

One player that is on Texas’ radar is Tomball’s Hunter Dunn, who took an unofficial visit to Texas a couple weekends ago. For Dunn, it was a good experience overall.

“It was nice visiting with the coaches. They’re all cool,” Dunn said. “We went in there and Tom Herman talked to us, that was pretty cool. Then they had Matthew McConaughey come in. That was sweet. He was just talking about the best players in Texas need to stay in Texas. He said there’s no better place than the University of Texas.”

Dunn got the invitation for the unofficial visit after Texas offensive coordinator Tim Beck stopped by Tomball and saw Dunn throw the ball. The 6-4, 175-pound Dunn said he feels he put on a good show for Beck and has confidence in his ability as a passer.

“We had a couple wide receivers out there with me. He told me and I had to come up there,” Dunn said. “I feel like I can make any throw on the field, any ball.”

Dunn has an early offer from Temple and said he may go see that campus soon. He’s planning to visit Texas A&M this weekend and has several other schools around the region showing interest as well.

As for Texas, if the Longhorns were to offer, Dunn said he’d have a very strong interest.

“I grew up a Texas fan. They would most likely be up there towards the top,” Dunn said.

Dunn is currently ranked as a three-star prospect.
