Sark's press conference where he said they were comfortable with 3rd and medium made me think of what the distances for short/medium/long actually are. What are the actual numbers coaches use to define the distances? Is it exact numbers? Is it more feel? Does it depend on the team?
I've heard and used these terms all the time regarding football but I don't think I've ever heard a true definition. I tend to see it as follows but I'm no expert as my football playing experience is pop warner, middle school, and a year of high school.
I'm just curious what others see it as.
3rd and short: >0 and <4
3rd and medium: >=4 and < 8
3rd and long: >=8 and < 13
3rd and you fvcked this series up pretty bad: >=13
