From the Department Of Negative Nellie.
Earlier today, Texas head coach Tom Herman said the following about his quarterbacks:
"We need to have one guy be ahead for more than one day. They’ve both had their really, really good moments. They’ve both had some that you sort of shake your head at. Overall, it’s a really good thing. Both of them have pushed each other to where they’re both playing at a level that I haven’t seen either of them play. Now, one of those guys has to put a few of those back-to-back-to-back-to-back.”
There are probably two ways of looking at the comments.
a. Herman claims the quarterbacks are better than he's ever seen them play.
Hoo-ray!
b. It doesn't seem like he's seen either of them be better than he's ever seen, day-in and day-out.
A year ago, the first point might have stood out for me more than the second point, but I find myself more focused on the second point, especially since I feel like I've heard those words before about the quarterbacks at this school this decade.
I'm so tired of being instinctively jaded. I wonder if I'll ever be Laura Ingalls again.
Number Two
I'm probably more focused on that second point because I'm a believer that a bus driving quarterback isn't going to win the Big 12.
Even in a year with so much turnover across the league, I believe you have to have a quarterback that imposes his will and fear in the entire league to have a chance.
While many folks points to how close Texas was to winning a number of games a season ago that it lost and believe only slightly better quarterback play will get the team over the 5-7/6-6/7-5 hump, I'm not sure that transitive properties in college football work quite like that from one season to the next.
If Texas is going to win 10 games, this team must have a quarterback that can be responsible for 30+ touchdowns this season.
I suppose that's the bar I judge all of my quarterback thoughts against.
Number Three
It's August 16th and we're basically two weeks away from the opener. Other than some stingers and other minor bumps and bruises, I'd say the injury report has gone about as well as one could hope.
Number Four
Really could have done without Major Applewhite letting Art Briles on his practice field on Thursday.
I don't care if it was "Take Daddy to Work Day" around the athletic department.
All rape enablers and evil men stay home.
Be better at being a leader of young men, Major.
Number Five
Here's something Ohio State better thing long and hard about ...
If they decided to let Urban Meyer keep his job, then he has to face the music and answer all of the media's tough questions.
I still refuse to believe they will be willing to risk such a thing, considering he's a known liar about the subject and likely has more people than simply Brett McMurphy waiting to catch the liar in another lie.
Also, I can't wait for McMurphy to take center stage at the press conference with whatever questions he might have to ask.
Face to face.

We're recording to the TicketCity podcast tomorrow morning and it'll be out by mid-day (I hope). For those that love the podcasts, stay tuned for an announcement before the end of the month. You're about to get a serious rise in this content from our staff.

Rest in peace, to the Queen. Here's a link to the best thing I've read on Aretha Franklin's passing all day.
Also, here's a link to my favorite Aretha song.
