As I watch "It's a Wonderful Life" on Amazon for the first time during the 2020 Christmas festivities, I found myself pulled to the keyboard with an urge to put together an Orangebloods Christmas Day message.

It might be possible that I'm just avoiding the barrage of trash left in the wake of Christmas morning package destruction, but I'm feeling sentimental (at least that's what I'm telling myself).

It's been a rough year. Before we even take into consideration the football season that left everyone yearning for more, the weight of one of the hardest years on record is impossible to get away from. The separation from normalcy. Financial anxieties. Kids not being able to be kids. Death. It goes on and on and on.

2020 has been a year for the ages for all of the wrong reasons, yet on this day of family and togetherness, I just wanted to take a moment to say something to my extended Orangebloods family.

We rarely have a consensus. There's bickering. Some occasional suspensions. Hell, at least 85-percent of the time I'm personally driving all of you crazy.

Through it all, I love my wonderful band of bonkers that make up our entire island of misfit burnt orange toys.

When I look back on this year, I'll know one of the things that helped me get through so many tough parts was this community. Oh, we'll fight and fuss for sport a lot of the time, but when the you know what hits the fan, this community is here for each other. I can't ever remember a moment over 20 years when we didn't rise up for the sake of creating goodness in the world. We've sent wounded warriors to the Rose Bowl. I'll never forget the fundraising to forever help remember Haruka Weiser's "light". So many families have been helped over the years. So many of us have been able to turn to others on this board for help in so many important ways.

This is what family is. It's rarely agreeing on the little things, but always uniting together for the biggest.

For all of the craziness that comes with being surrounded by tens of thousands of football-obsessed maniacs, my life is better because of all of you. I hope you know that I never take what this wonderful home for all of us for granted.

Merry Christmas!
