Talked to some folks last night on a variety of topics. A few notes ...
In talking to a couple Ohio State sources, there is confidence there following Lathan Ransom's official visit. It is worth mentioning that there were similar vibes coming out of pretty much every one of Ransom's visits, but a source I trust told me last week this one was pretty much a Texas and Ohio State battle. There was a feeling Texas had taken the lead coming out of his UT visit two weekends ago, but everyone knew the Ohio State visit could change things. Ohio State people seem to think the Buckeyes surged into the lead but I'm told there is still hope for Texas that things could even out a bit as he takes some time away from the visit and discusses his options with his family.
On the positive side, there's a feeling by some that Texas surged into the lead with Bryson Washington. The Houston CE King standout told me a couple weeks ago that it was a dead heat between Texas and Oklahoma, but my gut read on the situation coming into the UT official visit was that OU had a slight lead. One person I spoke with who spent time with Washington feels that's not the case coming off his UT visit. I'll see Washington at some point today in Atlanta and will have a chance to pick his brain.
Lastly, everyone is aware that Texas Director of Recruiting sent out the bat signal indicating Texas has a silent commitment. I've been told there's no firm timeline on an announcement, but I do not expect it to go down in the immediate future. Could be a bit on that one.
I'll be checking with guys like Bijan Robinson, who just took his UT official visit, and Vernon Broughton (just visited A&M) when they get to Atlanta later today.
