--- Scottsdale Community College tight end Sal Cannella will make his commitment tomorrow at 1 p.m. CST. He'll choose between Texas, Auburn and Maryland and plans to announce his decision on Twitter.
Cannella is a tough one to read. I've leaned ever so slightly to Auburn after his official visits, but I'm told people at Texas are cautiously confident that they did enough to win him over. Also, an Auburn source told me tonight that Cannella has not informed Auburn of a decision, and people inside the Auburn program really don't know what he's going to do. Sounds like this one could keep everyone guessing up until the very end.
--- Texas has put out feelers to Garner, N.C. defensive end Matthew Butler and Butler is planning to call Oscar Giles tonight. Unfortunately for Texas, Butler has already taken four visits and he plans to make his commitment on December 21. He said he'll hear UT out, but told me tonight it's probably too late for a new school to get involved. Butler has already taken four official visits (including one to A&M) and said he won't take a fifth, unless he commits to a school he hasn't visited yet.
--- This from new UT offer DeMarvion Overshown, a 2018 WR/DB from Arp (Texas is recruiting him as a safety).
"I've been a Texas Longhorn fan all my life. When I started getting message from them, I was happy. My dad my Peewee coach, they have been fans and always wanted me to go to that school. It's my dream to go to Texas."
--- Manvel 2018 DB Trent Gordon is a name to file away.
Gordon picked up an LSU offer last week. A&M and Kentucky have followed suit.
Texas stopped by Manvel last week to check on a few prospects, and new UT assistant Jason Washington has been in contact with Gordon during his stint at Houston. More on Gordon tomorrow.
--- Texas offered 2018 OL Trey Stratford last week. This from Stratford ...
“I am very excited and honestly blessed to receive an offer from Texas. They have always been a team I have followed and liked.”
--- In case you missed it this morning, Texas is recruiting Columbus MS running back Kylin Hill (Mississippi State commitment) and Hill is planning to visit Texas in January.
--- Note: New OB intern Robert Larkin helped contribute to this report. Robert is going to start helping us with some recruiting coverage. He's an OB sub and a UT journalism student. Please help welcome him to the team.
