A show of hands please.....

Are you talking about the Dline and secondary that you have right now or are you talking about new players coming in? I ask, and I have not looked at any stats but it appeared to me that your Dline was manhandled today? LB? Malik and Hagar were taken out or jumping offsides all day. Roach I like though.

I am talking about next year. Nelson, Hagar and Roach replaced seniors. I thought Ford would be better. Good rotation guy but not a starter. Next year I expect Fowler and at least 2 of the freshman inside guys to come in and play much better than what is going on now.

Mike tomlin and Sean Payton? Come on guys. Tomlin has what might be the best most stable job in the NFL. Payton can pick his next job why would he leave the NFL? Guess it's possible but I'm thinking we should be a little more realistic.

Here is my list

Chris Peterson-I've read he'd say no but put him an offer on the table that makes him the highest paid coach in football and make him say no.

He currently makes 3.6 million. Texas could easily double that if not more.

Gus Malzahn-I've felt like for a long time even back when he was an OC that he'd be a great fit at Texas. Good chance he'd keep Gilbert to i think.

Brian Harsin- Going to have his 2nd double digit win season this year. Texas expierence. Worked for 2 great coaches in Mack and Peterson

Tom Herman- well he's first on a lot of people's list. I think the guys I listed above have a little more HC expierence and are more ready

In Truth I think all4 guys would be great hires. That's just an order of preference for me

Your right! I watched a buncha of them today that couldn't tackle to save their lives or block and how many outa that 75 actually play in NFL? Probably half was not good enough you think? I can take any Football player in Texas and buy his Stars or influence the right people to give them to him..

Hook'em

This doesn't make any sense FB...

So you discount Tomlin and Payton and put a 0% chance guy like Peterson on there? Cool!

Sean Payton has flirted with moving on to the college level for a while now. Texas of all schools could get the closest to his NFL salary.

Malzahn I like. Harsin I like. Herman is an iffy for me.

Like I said Peterson might say no, but make him say no

tomlin has shown no interest in college before that I know of and he has probably the most secure job in the NFL

Payton I don't rule out totally but I'd be surprised.

I'm not here to take a victory lap-- to say "I told you so", or to opine on how we've set our program back 3 years. I'm not going to ask anybody to eat crow or beat you up verbally-

But a show of hands please--- who has seen enough?
I am done. Get rid of Strong and get someone who can coach at the level Texas should be coached at.

Sean Payton will take a long hard look at LSU before any other college team. He's already a demigod in that state. Taking the lsu job makes him an actual God.

Coach O about to go 3-0 as interim coach. If he figures out a way to upset Bama in two weeks he might get that LSU job full time

This might sound crazy and people might know of reasons against this that I am unaware of, but what about Holgerson? He knows the Big 12, is having success, and I would think he is familiar with Texas recruits. Every so often he puts up a pretty good team with W. Virginia recruits. What could he do with the type of recruits that Texas could land? His defense is number one in the Big 12 this year, and he usually has good offense which is his background.

No on Holgerson. He's a good coach. Not sure it's a fit here. I've always thought pat Fitzgerald at Northwestren deserves a shot at a major program. Probably not Texas though. I still think the best guy we could hire is Gus Malzahn. He wouldn't hesitate in saying yes either.

Holgerson's WV teams haven't been very good. 2011 and 2016 are their best seasons under Holgerson. His bowl record is 2-2 at WV over 6 seasons as a HC (lost the Pinstripe and Liberty Bowls). His records are:

2011 10-3 (1st Big East) & bowl win
2012 7-6 (5th Big 12) & bowl loss
2013 4-8. (7th Big 12) & no bowl
2014 7-6 (4th Big 12) & bowl loss
2015 8-5 (5th Big 12) & bowl win
2016 6-0

P Fitz has the perfect job. Northwestern doesn't expect to be in the national title hunt or even the big 10 hunt ever. Any bowl game they get is a blessing. You gotta remember-- Northwestern is the dork school of the Big 10. Super smart people (yes Cindy Crawford is super smart) go to school there and they put academics above all else. Any success they have on the field is just an added bonus to them. P Fitz is roughly my age, helped them get to a rose bowl in 1996 (97?) And is hands down, their favorite son. He's under zero pressure, gets to live in the Chicago burbs- plays golf with MJ and Murray from time to time- just has to go to a bowl game every other year or so and people are pleased as pie.

Also, Peterson will never leave the Pacific Northwest- Unless his kid dies--- and it sucks to have to say that out loud-- but that's why he's not leaving the PNW. He's got a 16-17 year old son with a brain disorder due to a tumor and he and the family LOVE the doctor. They will NEVER leave that area.

Yep. I agree. We should cross him off. By the grace of God, I had a brain tumor removed at MD Anderson 10 years ago. For that reason, I am retiring in Texas (just in case).

do you know Northwestern's cheer?....

Thats alright..
thats ok...
you'll all work for us one day..

Dig a little deeper into LSU. Lose 14-16 to a very good Wisconsin team. Beat some bad teams and lose to an Auburn team with a less than 100% Fournette. They beat a Mizzou team that lost to Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss and then beat Ole Miss with a finally healthy Fournette. The Team gave up 16,13, 20, 18 with Miles and 7, 10 and 21 with Orgeron. So how much of the difference is the Coach vs the healthy all world running back?

Ok,since we are throwing names round,Some big donors at this school want a better record,Gundy of OSU,in fact can and does recruit the State of Texas well taking players that Texas rejects and wins with them.He knows the teams of the big 12 well and a low learning curve.Oh,he would never leave OSU,money talks and I know I will have some rebuttal here but his teams are in a bowl game every year.

I would be open to Texas interviewing Gundy. He has been competitive at Oklahoma State, comes from a good coaching tree, and other decent coaches have developed under Gundy (Fedora, Holgerson, & Monken).

Gundy is a solid coach. Doing about as well as you can at Ok state it would seem. Worked under Les Miles and had good coaches work under him. Doubt Texas gives that route.

Clob. I understand there is almost no shot at Peterson, and understand why. You don't know if you don't ask though is all I'm saying. Double his salary and if he says no ok.

If he were to say no I'd immedetly go to Malzahn

For the record, Dana Holgorsen today is far, far better than the one we first hired. He's matured. His record compares to Bobby Bowdens time at WVU .

That is actually a good point. I think some fans think a coach needs to be undefeated for at least a decade before Texas can hire them. Not realistic.

I am not saying Texas should hire Holgerson by the way.

I wouldn't hire Gundy, I think his disconnect with T. Boone Pickens would be a red flag. At OSU, they have 1 big donor, at Texas there are probably at least a dozen. I don't like that fit.

The donors at Texas may have a different opinion than T.boone Pickens. How do you know?"I think he has done a great job at some Indian mudhole called Stillwater.

I wouldn't not hire a guy just because he might not get along with Boone. First of all the fact that Boone hasn't had him removed tells you it must not be that bad and just because you don't get along with one person doesn't mean you'll not get along with everyone.

Quite honestly the reason Gundy and Boone don't get is probably because Gundy has become untouchable at OSU and Boone doesn't have the power he wants

He's 99-49 as HC
Bowl games in all but one year(his first)
4 double digit win seasons

He knows he could get another job if he wants. So isn't worried about Boone.
