With so much talk of the Shohei Otani 50-50 home run ball that's being put up for auction, thought I'd share some valuable advice in case any of you ever has a high end item. Auction houses typically charge a 20% Seller's and Buyer's Commission. This fee, depending on the item can run in the tens of thousands of dollars as it most likely will, with the Otani home run ball. Couple pieces of advice, from personal experience. The seller can dictate
The terms to the auction house and insist on not paying a commission. Secondly the seller can insist on being paid half of the buyer's commission. It's a tactic that is used all the time by experienced memoribilia dealers but is not well known to the general public.
This will increase the seller's net gain tremendously. Happy auctioning!!!
