Plus 4 of the 5 played ball in Texas.

Gilbert-
Played at Angelo State
HS coach Springtown, Abilene Cooper, San Angelo Lake View, and Temple
GA Houston

Maddox-
Player, GA, and coach at UH

Anthony Johnson-
Player and GA Texas
HS coach in Jefferson
coach SHSU

Charlie Williams-
4 years at TCU
2 years at New Mexico(OK not really Texas)

Clay Jennings-
Player and GA at North Texas
2 years SHSU
2 years UH
1 year Baylor
6 years at TCU under Patterson

Texas now has 3 former Texas HS coaches on staff; Traylor, Gilbert, and Johnson

Strong was in a bind when he got hired. Came in late didn't have any Texas ties. He kept Chambers and brought in Keoning mostly because of their ties to Texas coaches. Strong realized that those guys couldn't pull their own weight so he gave them the boot and brought in guys that could recruit Texas. At some point I would love to bring Applewhite back because that dude can flat out recruit this state.

Applewhite isn't going to work at Texas again after his banging the student trainer and the legal settlement from that. Sucks, as he is still one my all-time favorite players.

The affair with the student happened in 2009. Applewhite remained on the as a coach until 2013. The legal issues came to light with the Kearny lawsuit because she was making the argument that she was being unfairly treated.

I could see Major coming back. Surely not a given. Not even likely as we sit today.

But if Charlie doesn't work out, and Herman comes here.....he'd most likely bring Major with him. I just do think that Strong is on the right tracks/don't think that Charlie will flame out soon enough and Herman will be taking some other p5 job within a year or two.

It's a staff that I'm really getting excited about.

Youthful, enthusiastic, and high integrity.

Johnson Maddox, and Gilbert are up and coming guys. Williams and Jennings are like father figure types. Love it, it's a great mix.

8 to 10 wins and this next recruiting class will be top 5.

We just need to win some damn games.

I doubt major comes back. He's probably in line to be the HC at Houston if Herrman leaves.

I doubt the Afair and lawsuit would have much effect though. He didn't get fired when the Afair was known so why would it matter now?

Look the fact of the matter is that MA went from being one of the most beloved players in UT history to an arrogant, entitled sob. From 1997 to '13 he spent all but three years as a player or coach at Texas. He needs to go somewhere else find out what the rest of the college fb world is all about.

From the sounds of it Mack kind of enabled an enviorment of entitlement around the program the last few years. So that really shouldn't surprise anyone.

That would take being all 4 and 5 stars as the class will be around 20 guys unless there is a lot of attrition.

Well Echols is already gone. Wouldn't be surprised to see at least a couple more transfers. There's going to be some unhappy WRs.

Also wouldn't be surprised at all if the class is all 4 and 5 stars after a winning season.

Without anymore attrition, we are currently at 85. I expect to see 2 to 3 more guys leave before next season and I expect to lose about 3 to 5 next year so I fully expect to see a class from 22 to 25 again.

I will take a class FULL of 3 Stars if they play like Connor Williams and D'onta Foreman.

There are only 14 Seniors. 16 if Santos and Evans return. No early entry candidate Juniors presently. You need attrition just to get to 20. WRs and losers of the QB battle are the most likely places for attrition.

There are a lot of positions that we likely don't take anyone unless they are an impact guy. DT is a prime example, no need to take anyone outside of Marvin Wilson. Actually the same can probably be said of every defensive position. We have crazy depth at every position on that side of the ball right now.

As far as attrition goes, I could see us losing a couple of WRs and QBs but also olinemen and linebackers as well. I can also see foreman leaving early if he has the season I expect him to have. After next year he will have already been in the program for 3 years.

It's going to be a full class or very close to it. The attrition is not over. We have a logjam at WR with a lot of older guys who have been recruited over and who will never see the field. A couple of them will leave (at least) along with a few others before next February.

BTW - It amazes me that we have had two or three guys that left because they have already graduated. That is absolutely great, they walk away with a degree and get the chance to get get some playing time. None will likely make it in the NFL but damn they have a bright future.
