It wasn't even a week ago that the Texas Longhorns didn't have a running back commitment for the 2017 class. Suddenly, Texas has two.

Houston Westfield running Daniel Young, who decommitted from Houston earlier this week, gave Texas a verbal commitment on Friday. Young joins Toneil Carter as the second running back to commit to Texas this week.

Young has been in close contact with the Texas coaches ever since picking up a UT offer earlier this month, and prior to this week, he had pretty much narrowed his focus down to the Longhorns and Houston. When he formally decommitted from Houston on Tuesday, it looked like Texas had moved into the driver's seat and Young made it official on Friday.

The 5-10, 206-pound Young has a lot of familiarity with the Texas coaching staff, which helped him come to a quick decision. Young has a good relationship with UT head coach Tom Herman from his time as a Houston recruit, and new Texas assistant coach Corby Meekins coached Young at Westfield.

"Me and coach Meekins have a really close relationship," Young recently told Orangebloods.com. "He got me where I am today."

When Texas first began recruiting Young, he knew there was a good chance he would be coming in as part of a two-running back class if he wound up switching to Texas. When Carter committed to Texas on Monday, it did nothing to deter Young from following his heart to Austin.

"I'm not scared of competition," Young said. "Competition is what made me who I am, so who would I be to back down now?"

A three-star prospect, Young ranks No. 58 on the 2017 Lone Star Recruiting Top 100.

"To be honest, I can bring a little of everything, or a lot of everything," Young said. "I'm a very versatile back. I can do it all. You just have to give me a chance."
