What's the problem then when the horn's generate more more money than every institution in cfb? How does aggy get the advantage here?

Would you want to live in a city full of homeless people in tents and party on a street where dudes is shooting each other all the time?
Influential Momma may also have a thing or two to say especially if she wants to keep her son away from the thugs and homies on 6th street.

It's been years since I was down there but is it really that bad or are you exaggerating?

Here's just 2021....

Look..... and all you dudes on here that are black, I'm not picking on you-- unless you shot someone on 6th street--- but I am about to fvck with the knuckleheads that have done this--

6th street used to cater to 1 thing-- college students. That's how they made their money. Kids showed up, bought shots and daiquiris and giant beers- tipped a little if they could afford it-- went to soap foam dancing parties at Paradox, dropped X at Buffalo club-- you know, college stuff.
The bar owners would make a little money and after 4-5 years of dealing with kids, they'd sell their bar to another "local guy" and take their money and go somewhere else to open a bar that catered to adults-- in another part of town or in another city.

The atmosphere was always a "local college party" variety. Dance music. Sex music. Party music. Techno. Hell you could country dance at a couple of places. Dance across Texas did 25 cent pitchers for years. Dear God the talent that used to run around in that place on Thursday nights. I think at one point I went over a year straight of hooking up with a different girl every Thursday night. Between all the Texas, SWT and TLU hotties that ran around that place......sorry.... nostalgia....

Anyway.... as Austin grew, corporate bar investment groups started coming in and buying all the bars in the 6th street area. Corporate bar companies are based in NYC, LA, Chicago-- and they brought in a urban element. The hip hop movement was in full swing on the east and west coasts and that influence was shoved right down the throat of 6th street. Back in the day, DJs would play a line-up like this-

Top 40
Top 40
Top 40
Top 40
Throwback 80s
Throwback 70s disco
Late 80s early 90s rap
Repeat

Corporate DJs from Los Angeles and NYC came in and started playing straight gangsta rap 24/7. There's enough black folks and white wanna-be black folks in NYC and LA that you can get by with playing line ups like that. But Austin--- Austin has rich white kids... and those white collar kids took their money and wetlnt other places.

So the urban bars just doubled down. They promoted "black this" and "black that" events.

So the money starts leaving and the bar owners decide to double down-- they start hosting rap battles and concerts in small bars that were never intended to host concerts-- not enough room. So bar owners started scouring social media to find low rent rappers in Houston, Dallas etc-- that had some hard core followers, and bringing them into Austin to do small concerts in their small venues. Now you got wanna be gangster elements from Dallas, Htown, St. Louis, NOLA, Memphis-- coming down to Austin to support "their boy" or their meal ticket or their baby daddy..... and of course-- they gotta "represent" their hood while in Austin-- so many of them show up strapped--
Why? Because the rappers crew from Memphis don't like the rappers crew from STL because somebody disrespected somebody 6 months ago at a concert in KC.

Well, our wanna be "thugs" in Austin start seeing dudes carrying and of course they can't be the only ones without a 9mm in their own hood-- gotta represent the 512.... lso the little Austin wanna be gangstas start carrying guns to protect their turf from the STL, Memphis, NOLA, Long Beach dudes that are in town for the rap battle. And since some of them flew into Austin, they didn't bring their weed or coke-- and they need to buy some-- from Austin dudes. And Austin dudes is paranoid-- cause they be hearing about fo' real gangstas gettin' shot for their paper and stash.... by out of town gangstas.
Do you see where I'm going with this?

I have a close friend that is one of the last local hold outs down town. He's got a bar and owns half of another bar. When the wrong element takes over his bar, he cranks up the Billy Ray Cyrus and tries to run the crowd off. Why? Headaches. Every time there's a fight in his bar the cops show up. Every time the cops show up, an incident report is written. Everytime an incident report is written, the TABC sees it and comes by to have a chat with him. And that's a fvcking pain in the ass to him.

Go down there one night and see for yourself.

This is spot on. Precisely this is the root element that has taken 6th Street off the list of places to go and see in Austin.

The Kid was born in Aggy Land. I absolutely hate this but marvel at what Aggy is doing. If they don't win a Natty in 2-years, they are cursed. Don't want to see them on the field until after the coming Jimbo scandal.

Huh. The only action in downtown Austin in 1968 was Vulcan Gas. Biggest local band was Shiva's Headband. I heard Johnny Winter, Steve Miller, and the Fugs at the Vulcan.

It's this accurate? I haven't been to Austin in 20 years but if true than I'm truly sorry Austin was the most unique city in Texas. But to many people have moved there and maybe Austin isn't big enough to handle it. What a shame.

I was in that entertainment district for the last time 5 years ago for a FB game. Even then, it was dicey. The hotel I stayed at on Fifth and San Jacinto was decent but the entire area was dicey. Not only was there the combustible tension of the element described above, but the nearly Salvation Army provided an additional set of aggressive folks in the area. Won’t stay there again.

That’s too bad, Austin has always been one hell of a city, very unique. So where are the college kids hanging out. There is so much in Austin to see and do.

I've been to Rainey Street in the not too distant past. Seemed prétty laid back, safe and cool. Haven't been back in the last couple of years though. Thaought?

Huh. The only action in downtown Austin in 1968 was Vulcan Gas. Biggest local band was Shiva's Headband. I heard Johnny Winter, Steve Miller, and the Fugs at the Vulcan.
come on....Shivas was big, but the biggest of the big in those days was Oedopus Rex and the Mothers....

I was going to school from 1968-1972. Never heard of them.

I'm not a big city guy. Was in Austin and UT in the mid 70s and still visit and go to games. Yes 6th Street isn't what it used to be and Austin's leadership/govt is different. Surely, the good things/places in Austin outnumber 6th street and the streets around it. Even collie station and Bryan has its sketchy spots.

Before my time but wish I was there. 😁
