This is not a political post and not taking a side here. Just asking if people here remember when the free press actually tried to fulfill its roll as "the watchdogs of liberty." When getting at the truth was their highest calling and stories were checked and re-checked before publication. When reporting something that proved to be incorrect was the most damnable act a journalist could be guilty of? When you could half way believe the things you heard or read in the news every day? That public service has been lost along the way. Today news outlets are little more than propaganda vehicles for political parties on both sides. They all bend, twist and obfuscate in an attempt to further the agenda of whichever political party they lean toward. Both sides have lost their reputations for seeking the absolute truth.
Our nation is weaker for this, and it will get worse. Its turning people against people and balkanizing and dividing our republic in a way no external enemy could. And there doesn't seem to be a fix for it.
