How do ya rank him from 1-10?

I would give him a 5, I think, The secondary sorta let it down on the WR passes there for a while to almost get us beat , is he a good coach, well, he talks good and was a helluva player at UT, my gripe is that he didn't adjust very fast and , I dunno, if your a coach in a game like that you should when they come in , have a chalkboard and sit in front of them and say, this is what we gotta do and show what ND was doing to them and how they could combat it, but, maybe as the season gets going he will get better.

5 is about right given the last two years. For UT thats not going to cut it. Gilbert and Mattox?sp have stepped up, it's getting past due for Bedford. I felt this way year one, year two. It's not like the defense is void of talent. Players have to step up, so do the coaches.

A 5 for a 3rd year Defensive Coordinator who gave up historic numbers last year and did not lose his job is embarrassing with the talent we have on D. Yes, I know some of them are young but they still have fundamental tackling problems. Malik is the real leader of that defense and not Bedford, I have more faith in a player than I do a coach....sad...

I was really disappointed we gave up 2 TDs on busted coverage. One is not good, but acceptable, but 2 is not acceptable. I'd give them a 3 for Sunday night. We won because of the O, not the D. Holding a team to 35 is not going to cut it week end, week out. They did get some key stops, but ND is not USC of 2005.

7 of those were setup by the INT. 28 is a touchdown improvement over last year.

The kids still have to make the plays, We got burned off the edge due to Hanies going wide and Malik having to track down the RB and once Hanies was sidelined, Vaccaro got burned on a missed tackle. The defensive backfield gave up a whopping 215 yards to Z and that kid can thread the needle. I'm not at all concerned with the points. As I mentioned previously, of the top 8 tacklers, 6 were sophomores. It's coming together folks. I could not pick here and there but I think it will look better each week. Texas wasn't very good against screens, need to see improvement there, but it really wasn't as bad as the 38 points in reg.

The top tacklers in order: Nelson (DT), Jefferson (LB), Hill (CB), Hager (LB), Wheeler (LB), Omenihu (DE), Boyette (DT), Ford (DT), Locke (S), Hughes (DE) with 4.

The team also had 3 sacks for 19 yards and 6 TFL against arguably the best OL they will face this season.

I'm not disappointed, they held them when it mattered the most!

Which plays are you considering busted coverage? The first is obvious, not sure who screwed up there between hall or davis but they both went with the same guy on that play. Are you considering the short TD pass to Tori Hunter Jr the other "busted coverage"? That was less busted coverage and more so due to a lack of pressure, the QB extending the play and DDavis losing the WR. He covered the initial route well but has to do better sticking with the WR when the WB scramble.

Rating a coach after one game against a top 10 team is as useful as pre-season polls.

We had horrible talent last year, if we had talent we wouldn't need to play all the freshmen we did. This year we have some talent and we look a lot better but still most of our talent are sophomores and true freshmen. This year our Dline is going to be a work in progress but our back seven looks really good. But still, we are going to be good on the back half of the season, but we will go through growing pains the first half. If we are undefeated after the RRR then we are going to be special.

Next year, this defense is going to be damn good, probably top 5 good.

Not with Bedford coaching. If it does happen to get there then I would say strong has stepped in and has taken control of the defensive coaching and play calling.

I have not been impressed by Bedford's defenses so far. Too many blown assignments.....I mean WR's running WIDE open with no DB within 8 yards or more. I think he is predictable in his calls. I hope it gets better but I am starting to think we may need another Defensive coordinator. Not giving up yet but close.

I'll give him an incomplete for now, but time to get the assignments completed is coming up pretty quick.

It's not so much on the DB's, it's more on the front line. When you rush with 3 down lineman against 5 offensive lineman plus a TE and maybe a RB, you will have a lot of time. They need to scrap that because it hasn't been successful. Go with the 4 DL and blitz Malik from time to time with Wheeler scouting the QB and RB or dropping in a soft zone

I like your thoughts but I have seen many teams that have a hard time to defend against the spread offenses of today.A defense has to cover the whole field.A QB will get a sign from the coach on the defensive alignment and attack it.It becomes a guessing game in which the DC can be a genius or dunce but if you cannot get pressure on the QB then a smart one is going to burn you so a 3 man rush will not cut it

We might be surprised at how much better our defense looks not facing that QB and that O Line. I will admit to being a bit leery of claiming our first opponent is the best at anything for the year. It may be true but we will not know for sure until the end of the year. It may be the QB and O Line were the best we will face until the next "best" shows up.

That said I will agree that the ND QB and O Line are most likely the best we face all year.

And another thing....we all agreed that we would be better at the end of the season than the beginning.

Don't get the idea that I am satisfied with the defense. Coming in, I like everyone was concerned with our D Line. That has not changed. They did do as well as I expected. What I was "rocked" by was how disorganized our vaunted secondary looked. That has to be cleaned up.

I was encouraged that we could muster a stop now and again.

Another thing.....Bryce Cotteral, our sack leader from last year did not play in this game. Getting him back will be huge.

Judging our defense in a game like this is akin to Judging Gene Chizik's 2005 defense solely on how they did against USC.

It might suck, but we sure did make up a lot of excuses for our defense last year and the year before because our offense sucked. I'm thinking we need more than just one game to judge these guys by, and more than just a top 10 team as our only measuring stick.

I think w will know who we are after the OSU game, we will know more about staff by the TCU game and can then give them a proper grade based on a whole body of work.

Um no. He was in a neck and neck race with the other qb on his team so hes a ways from being the best in the country. Watson from Clemson may be though. If the defense was going to be fixed , Bedford would have already fixed it. He doesn't like to be questioned about it and hearing him speak at an interview is just brutal. Does not seem like a very good representative of your university and comes off as he's better than everyone and shouldn't be asked questions, in my opinion.

Don't confuse B. Kelly trying to keep his second QB on board in the locker room and not looking to transfer out as a legit QB competition.

Lil Bro Stoops got schooled and you want to chime in on Bedford...

Worry about that trash DC Mike Stoops. Bedford's best players on defense are sophomores, so we know we are only going to get better. OU is what they are on defense, trash. We are better than you, we have scoreboard on you, Texas owns OU.

Bedford represents Texas, better than Bob Stoops represents OU. Bob Stoops created a culture of Beat A B!tch University. Beat a b!tch and come on down to OU. You can knock her out, throw her down the stairs, just be all you can be and beat a b!tch, and come to OU.

Strong doesn't let Bedford even be interviewed after a game because he gets defensive and is a loose cannon so how can you claim he's a good representative of your university? Have you heard him speak? OU has young players as well but our coach makes 5 mil per year so that excuse does not sit well with me.

I love seeing that mindless a-hole scream when things are going badly for them. Every time a Stoops brother rips off their headsets in anger, an angel gets their wings. :D
Why would an angel get their wings for someone getting mad? That literally makes no sense.

It's a joke, dullard. Because they're complete douchebags and them getting mad is what's right in the... Oh never mind.

Bedford does a weekly presser, lol. There's no need to hear from him after the last tick, he has a set day to discuss. Today!

It's ok to have a little back and forth but referring to women as bitches on here is over the top in my opinion. It would be wise for you to take heed because we have a few women posting on here.

So tongue in cheek is an issue with you (our women are smart enough to get that), but not the actual offense of OU players beating on women, and Stoops taking them in with open arms. Take heed to that. I'm sure OU has women fans, but cheater u fans have no problem, cheering on those criminals. Your coach is scum for bringing in DGB and allowing Mixon to stay on the team. Don't bump your gums about Texas, when your coach is a defender of men beating on women...AND you continue to support the coach and players.

I'm aware of that my point was at the beginning when he first got to Texas he had post game interviews just like every coach does but after the first few loses he became combative to the media he couldn't control his mouth and Charlie muzzled him. That's common knowledge Charlie even went as far as announcing that he will no longer be allowed to do post game interviews. Now he does interviews in a controlled environment with a handler there at all times.

OU is NOT as young as Texas on defense. It matters, because of that thing called logic. OU's defense is what it is, trash. Texas has a lot of young talent, and they are only going to get better. I'll say it again, our best players on defense are sophomores. You'll see Texas field a top 10 defense next season. ..ou's defense will still be trash. We own OU. SCOREBOARD!
