Time to move on. Sam is what he is. They are not competing for the big 12 championship, much less a national championship this season.
Might as well move on and play young guys to develop them for the future, regardless of who the coach might be next year.
ou will already go into next years game with an experienced quarterback who has won in this game. Huge edge for them next year.

Sam showed up for the last 4 minutes of regulation and through 3 overtimes, mainly through some timely runs.
Other than that, he was aweful.
The game was lost in regulation.
With Texas having a rare advantage going in this rivalry with an experienced quarterback vs a freshman who has never played in this game before. Texas should have won.
Sam played like a freshman for much of the game.
How does a 4 year starter not quickly recognize double coverage? Why can't he quickly make the read and check off to the open guy somewhere else. Instead he forced the ball several times into double coverage and was lucky it didn't get intercepted.
Then, after our defense gets a key turnover in our territory he comes out and throws the ball at the feet of a wide open guy even though he was not very pressured. If he had hit the guy in stride it would have been a gain of 25 to mid field. Instead it was incomplete and momentum stopped. Ou blocks a punt. Scores td. Up 17-10.
Sam ended up playing the game like his freshman year. Trying to stay in the game using his legs.
If Sam had played like a 4 year starter who has won this game before then Texas would have won by 2 scores in regulation.

And Ingram just stinks. Another fumble when we could have put them on the ropes with a rattled freshman qb.

The only reason I could see to continue with Sam would be if he might get to come back and play again next year. But at this point he is 1-4 in the game vs ou and he hasn't led this team to anything great. He would probably find another way to lose this game again next year.
Might as well develop for the future.
And that means giving every snap to whoever is next in line for the rest of this season. Why waste any more trying to scrap for a gallery furniture.com bowl bid.
Now ou is only 14 games back in the all time series and has won the only overtime game. And they have won 15 of the last 22.
Way to choke Sam, Ingram, and Herman.
