IMO Stanford defenses the spread pretty well in the PAC 12, with a 3-4, which is the same defense Katy used to shut out 10 teams last year. I notice that there are different spread (pass crazy to run and power run zone read teams) and Stanford has stopped Rich Rod, Leach and Oregon and Dykes on a consistent basis without the 4-5 star recruits/talent OSU and Bama have. They did finally get spanked 44-6 by UW with a new QB and both starting CBs out, but they do stop spread offenses with a simple scheme.

Given the rules, and how the game is called at the collegiate level I think the no huddle up tempo attacks put the most stress on defenses. Everyone has their warts against these attacks.

I think the interesting thing is how teams that go all out with these offenses coincidently have poor defenses. I think there definitely is something to the way these teams practice to run these up-tempo attacks comes at a detriment to the defense. I understand that statistically these teams will run more plays and their defense will have to defend more plays so they are at higher physical exertion late in games, but we constantly see poor defense from start to finish not just late in games.

Ohio State plays pretty good defense, as does Clemson, BUT they don't go hurry-up all the time and they are pretty run heavy offense.

Agree they also don't run the non stop HUNH. Gary Patterson routinely put out strong defenses even in the first couple of years in the big 12 when they sucked, but his defenses were strong, and then their offensive direction changes and their defense is a sieve. They are winning more games, so it was a great move, but he is someone that has proven to have a successful defense that looks pretty pedestrian these days. Hell they've already had 40 hung on them 2x and one was South Dakota State.

Your best defense against these offenses seems to be to not run these offenses.

If I recall correctly, Stoops switched to the HUNH after West Virginia flat out wore OU out in that bowl game several years back, 07', I believe. OU figured WV was going to be a push over since Rich Rod had left and they had an interim coach. Haha, damn that was brutal for an OU fan to watch.
