1. they have won vs inferior competition
2. Have not won conference title in a power 5 conference. either they should have won a title or titles or been a long time assistant as a DC/OC that contributed to the titles
3. Quality NFL guy with an upbeat personality that will be able to recruit families/kids
I would not look to a mid major HC or assistant. I know the UT boosters want either Meyer or Saban or a kid they can boss around, but former NFL HCs that have failed, but are young enough and have good personalities (Kiffin). Coaches that have won power 5 league titles like Dantonio, Shaw, Miles. I just don't trust inexperience at the power 5 level.

We aren't stealing a successful championship winning P5 head coach. Stealing winning NFL coaches is also somewhat ridiculous, but I suppose if the timing is just right and said coach's NFL team is trending down then there could be a sliver of hope. Rebuilding an NFL team is a lot more difficult than a college team.

Harbaugh is at the top of my list as well. Michigan gave the blueprint for how to lure away a top NFL guy.

BTW Pete Carroll was an NFL bust as was Saban when they came back to college.

He wasn't lured. SF was letting him go (dumb move IMO), so he would be without a HC gig. The timing worked out that Michigan HC position was available so they hired him

His time was up in San Fran, but he would have got another gig in a matter of days. He is a superbowl coach, there are a lot of teams that would have taken him. Michigan came in with a whole team to recruit him and they created a package that they are still tweeking.

If Texas does the same thing I think we can lure John H from Baltimore.

That's true, UM did handle that well and now they are very good again

Jim was to be jobless and was hired by his alma mater who happened to be capable of making him the highest paid coach in college. Yeah he could have got another job in the NFL, but the fact remains he was always going to have to get another job. The timing was perfect.

We can certainly make John the offer but as far as I know he isn't going to be jobless at the end of this season, so the timing is not going to be in our favor.

Kiffin? I think he has learned his lesson and has trained under Carroll and Saban and is a great recruiter and QB guru and knows he needs great defense from both mentors and FATHER. I think he would be the steal of the century and he's still YOUNG!!!

Agreed. Harbaugh is gonna have to get fired. I guess we should all be pulling for Baltimore to suck

I would rather they have successful HC experience. I am tired of reading buzz words like "young" as if coaches are only either in their 30s or 5 years away from retirement. We don't need be thinking that this hire needs to be able to go 20 years. If that happens great, but don't cross people off because they are in their 50s.

Baltimore seems to be on the downside of their arc. They hitched their wagon and salary cap to a QB that isn't elite. Being middle of the pack is the worst place to be in the NFL, so there is the possibility of intriguing him with a college offer knowing that he is facing some lean years ahead in the NFL.

I think he has 1 year left on his current contract, I don't know what his status is in Baltimore, but don't most pro teams try to keep their coach under contract if they want to keep him. I get it that they don't have to give an extension but he is still considered a great coach. If his job was secure I would think they would have extended his contract by now.

I still say we have a great shot at getting him if we come correct with a legit offer.

I think the boosters have already decided it's Herrman, but if we don't get Harbaugh I think we need to look away from Herrman. Houston appears to have really lost their way after losing to Navy. Since he has such a short coaching resume as a HC that's a bit concerning.

I think boosters need to take a step back see how things play out. Look at Malzahn, Harsin and some others whose resumes are s bit deeper. That's again assuming they don't land Harbaugh or someone like that.

Houston down 21-3 to UCF

Not to turn everything into a Baylor angle, but ... a couple of months ago we hired the old UH AD, and everyone in Waco was giddy that Herman would automatically end up at BU. Looks like he may be coaching his way down to us.

Houston won.

I'm not sure what it is going to take to get one of the best, but I know one element is that this leadership needs to feel a level of desperation much like Michigan was feeling when they went after Harbaugh.

Yes there are better guys. Can we get them is the big question
Oh yeah. There are a lot of guys better positioned for the job than Herrman imo. I'm not just talking about the huge names. There are some mid tir types I like over Herrman right now.
