In one of the more surprising stories of what has been a recruiting cycle full of surprises, the Texas Longhorns picked a commitment on Wednesday from defensive back Austin Jordan. The talented Jordan kept everyone guessing until his public announcement moments ago, not even telling those close to his recruitment of his intentions before he posted his commitment on Twitter.

Jordan had previously narrowed his focus down to Texas, Oklahoma and Ohio State and he took official visits to all three programs in June. The Longhorns got the final shot at Jordan on last weekend of June, and Texas made a strong enough impression on that visit to win out in the end.

A 6-0, 185-pound cornerback out of powerhouse Denton Ryan, Jordan brings a nice blend of size, athleticism and ball skills to the position. A four-star prospect, he had accumulated more than 20 scholarship offers over the course of his recruitment, with programs like Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Georgia, USC, Auburn and Penn State joining the three programs that stood as finalists before Jordan’s commitment.

Jordan becomes the Longhorns’ 15th commitment in the 2022 class. He’s UT’s third defensive back commitment, joining Jaylon Guilbeau and B.J. Allen. Texas’ recruiting class ranks No. 11 in the Rivals.com team rankings.
