It was an anarchist that shot William Mckinley, but little did he know that he ushered in the greatness of American dominance that gathered yuge momentum in the name of Theodore Roosevelt. TR was Mclinley’s vice, and became president after the anarchist Czolgosz shot McKinley dead in Sept 1901. TR and Mckinley were different dudes. TR was bold and very outspoken and arguably for the time the best concoction of American politics – an east coast, Havard publican.
As things work out, TR was besties with a guy named Alfred Mahan…a water walker of sorts in that he was an ardent supporter of a blue-water navy and strongly espoused the view that national greatness was linked forever to the sea and ultimately the fighting power on the sea. The timeliness of Mahan’s writings and his TR relationship with Mahan and the conclusion of the French scapegoating whomever in their attempt to ‘Suez’ a tropical hellhole, which in today’s dollars would been a $9 trillion dollar capital markets project – undoable in today’s terms. Not slamming the French…big balls to go there and do that gig. In hindsight, probably a captain obvious moment, but TR and Mahan quickly recognized that controlling the 2 oceans was key to US global influence….from there the Panama Canal was built and the course of history, US naval power and global influence was forever changed.
So as you meander through your day and you come across one of these anarchist azzwipes, be polite and thank them for their bit in all this.
Lastly, God Bless America
