Chris Daniels

As I say to all kids who choose to attend a different university than OU, good luck and I hope it works out well for you.

Seems silly when grown (alleged) adults spew filth at kids because they choose to go elsewhere. It happens in every fan base, and is a very sour part of the whole recruiting process.

I'd tend to agree with the Sooner. There might be something to be said for pointing out kids who act ridiculous or over the top about things, and sometimes the prima donnas are tougher to root for or tougher to keep focused, but if a kid just decides to change their mind about where they want to spend the next 3 to 5 years of their life... good for them.

Now, from an opponent's stand point, particularly if that opponent is trying to recruit the same kid, that might be something intriguing to take note of...

Do guys who watch a lot of film like Daniels? I only saw one game of his this year, the one against the team from California on ESPN, he was ok. I know DT's don't grow on trees, but wondered what people who know more than I do think about him. Thanks

His talent level will rise and fall depending on which school he picks and your particular allegiance.
Pretty sure he is picking UT.
I saw Daylon Mack play once in HS against not great competition, and was not blown away. So, obviously I am no talent scout. I just wondered if Daniels had a bad game on TV (against really good competition), or if he is just more of a guy who eats up blockers. Not saying anything bad about the kid, just looking for opinions.

Just giving you a hard time. You're a good poster, mm. I just know that he's one of the remaining H2H battles between Sumlin and Strong (C.Daniels, J.McCullough, E.Cuffee, B.Jones, I.Smith, M.Jackson, etc.) and aggys would go ape if you got him. If not I expect a lot of "meh" responses from your fanbase.

Opinions vary. Everyone knows UT is desperate for DTs. Of the guys still on the board and the 4 UT has the best shot at (Elliott, Daniels, DCG and Taylor), Daniels is rated the 2nd highest per 247. He's got 4 stars but I always look at the offer list. His is very strong.

Thanks. Don't get me wrong I'd take him. I have a feeling that you guys are going to close way better than us. Probably a lot like last year. But I expect your class to be better than ours this year, where last year was too close to call. Of the 6 guys you listed as head to heads, I'd think you guys get 4 or 5. Sumlin and our boosters need to get on the same page. Strong is much better at keeping the folks that count happy. We kind of deserve what we are going to get this year.

I've stated on here before that I think he will be a bust. I've seen him 3 times, twice and person and once on TV. The kids was getting blown off the ball most times with smaller linemen. He just looked like he was weak in his lower body. He also didn't play through every play which I hate. Maybe he needs the right coach to draw it out of him. He just looked fat and slow to me. Just my 2 cents.

That is usually a leverage issue and the OL getting lower. Very teachable if the flexibility is there. Watch the tape of Kendall Jones against Belton this year. Belton owned him the whole game from getting leverage.

Please expound on this. Strong seemed to have a lot of headwind with the big money donors this offseason, so much so that it was reported his OC hire was being sabotaged by the new AD himself (that's when our President Fenves had to pitch in and fly on up to Tulsa to ink Sterlin Gilbert). It was reported that the big money guys wanted him out and he was Steve Patterson's choice.

What do you mean by keeping your big donors happy?

aggy thinks our BMD are buying players to stock the cupboard for the next coach and their BMD aren't to force Sumlin out.

I understand that. The kid could get the right coaching and take off and be a beast. When you watch video you see his best plays. When you watch him in person you see his flaws as well. I was excited to watch him play in person but came away very disappointed. Who knows, the right coach may turn the switch on. Just an observation...nothing more.

mm42, is this what you were insinuating? Hopefully not.
I think it is crystal clear than 2016 is it for Sumlin and the kids know it. I think the same is probably true for Strong, but I don't think the kids know it. Your donors are doing a better job of not talking him down right before signing day.

I think every school pays recruits, but doubt it is organized enough to turn it off because someone is pissed at a coach. This is mostly sour grapes I believe.

You are a complete idiot, Don't take it personally.

You think Sumlin and Strong are safe? Well I don't, but I do believe the vibe is better at Texas right know. You don't win 5 games at Texas without being on the hot seat. But recruits seem to see stability. That is fairly impressive.

I will think of you when Texas or OU bolts the Big12 and Baylor learns their value in the world.

I think Sumlin is safe as the new OC's buy makes it only $1mil cheaper to fire the staff next year tha
That was actually Zach Shackelford, an early enrolle who will compete to start at Center for Texas.

It was the Belton center. Shackelford plays OT for Belton.

everyone pays?.....the trouble with aggy is that they are much like...no exactly like the population of North Korea. The only information they get is what is fed to them by the internal press. They believe it and are shocked that everyone else does not believe it. They believe that they are the only ones that hold true to what is right and correct in the world.

That is the true tragedy of aggy.....they will never amount to anything until they look in the mirror and see that they have no clothes.

I don't think the schools themselves pay. But I do believe donors/fans do. I think it ranges from hundred dollar hand shakes to Ole Miss style no holds bar payments. I just find it hard to believe that many schools have donors paying, while others don't turn them in and just allow themselves to get screwed by the cheating. Just the cost of doing business.
Maybe i'm wrong, and no money changes hands. I also do not believe it is A&M's problem, we caused our own problems. My guess is that it happens pretty much everywhere, just because the NCAA no longer cares. If you believe LaQuan Treadwell and Jeremy Tunsil left Chicago and Miami because they heard Mississippi was an awesome state for young black men, I guess you are just more a glass half full kind of guy.
As much as Alabama and Auburn hate each other, why don't they turn in each other for cheating? Well I believe it is because it would be a circular firing line.
If A&M was paying before (which i assume we were), I doubt we stopped. Same for Texas.
I don't know any of this to be true, just what I believe.
Again, I think folks saying Texas is closing better than A&M due to $ are incorrect. I think it is Texas doing a better job with message.

Appreciate that. That's why you're a reasonable person. Most of your fanbase is not however. Assuming Texas is paying players just because we're closing well is ridiculous. UT and Austin have a lot to offer and always have.
