The only reason they even care about the economy is because of the elections and what is in it for them. ----- in fairness-- shouldn't we all as Americans care about the economy? I mean--- we don't want it to be bad--- do we? A bad economy means people are starving or being kicked out of their homes and on the street. Did you know that suicide hotline calls are up over 1000% from this time last year? That's really really really fvcked up. I don't want to rely on a government, regardless of who runs it, to take care of me and feed me and keep a roof over my head. That's not who we are as a country nor I am as a person. I don't know about you but, I am a born Texan. I should have the right to determine my own fate. A government should not be able to FORCE me to stay at home to protect me from myself. Yes, there is room for a "greater good" argument, I see that. But we are approaching the point of passing that threshold. And when deaths occur at a 0.024% rate, justifying the greater good has lost its foothold. If we were in double digits, well the sh!t has officially hit the fan and it's all hands on deck at that point.
But this simply isn't the case.
The other talking point I see is "Dow over deaths" or whatever nonsense. Do these people not realize that lots of people depend on the stock market? Even people that aren't 1%ers?
Another talking point that makes no sense is "we waited two months too long and now have this mess." If we locked down before anyone had a confirmed case would we all of a sudden had a cure? Am I missing something? Oh well, the hospitals are overrun because we waited. Well, no they're not.
In all serious, what am I missing with these two narratives?
Clob, we are in what is called a 4th turning. It just happens to coincide with a debt super cycle. Generation X is in a very bad spot. Most gen xers will die poor. 4th turnings are characterized by war and revolution. One thing, b4 you sign up to fight, determine who is doing the financing.

I've read that on a few occasions and while there are parts of it that I agree with, there are other parts that truly lack empirical evidence going forward. Remember--- this is a "theory".

I think we can all agree that it would be preferable for Trump to show some reverence for the position of POTUS when he tweets and speaks. I think we should also all agree, that his actions have been solid (not perfect) in dealing with this pandemic.

Congress is in charge of spending money. You know this. You're playing coy now. I agree Bell is beating a dead horse with the flu thing--- point noted Bell. But as you yourself stated earlier, you will do what you must to earn a living for your family AND be as safe as you can in the process. All WE are saying is--- YOU aren't the only person capable of doing that. WE can too. And WE as citizens under a constitutional Republic, should have the RIGHT to make a choice as to whether or not WE choose to walk out into a situation with a disease that has a 0.024% mortality rate vs the population. We can eat our cake and safely have it too. No?

In times like these, how a leader conducts themself and how they address the emotions of the people and how they conduct themselves if far more important than what they do.
The only thing Trump has really done is to ban international travel from coming in. That he did right - but late. Even then, the measures adopted in protecting our borders paled greatly in comparison to what other countries did. That is one of the biggest reasons the situation in the US became worse than countries with much higher populations.
I also like his not letting China off easy. I really wish he would make a stronger push for reducing depending on Chinese manufacturing. I would not mind paying a little more for non-China made products. Idiots like Pelosi would never do that....
I really like the confidence he exudes in opening things up. Heck, that alone would have me voting for him. I'd rather have an arrogant bastard as president than a weasel (read Pelosi).
But, he is just a self-promoting dick that he lets his true nature undo anything remotely good he might be doing. If you write a book on how to be a bad leader, Trump would be on the cover page. Every lesson taught on good leadership is violated by him.
His display of utter ignorance and incompetence in front of Americans who are genuinely concerned about their welfare, lack of basic respect for people, continuing to harp on untrue and irrelevant things in times like these all tell the people that he cannot be trusted to help us through these times. The work done by local governments across the country has had a far more positive impact than anything Trump did.
A good leader will know when to step aside and let someone else lead during certain situations. This guy has never allowed anyone else to evolve as a leader. He is too engrossed in himself to do that.
He appoints Pence responsible for handling COVID and gives Pence a chance to do nothing. He is still in front of all the cameras himself making an ass of himself. Why all that charade about Pence running the show?
A good leader surrounds himself with good people. He surrounds himself with idiots like his children and son-in-law. BTW, I do not have respect for what Obama did in this regard either. I know of people (distant relatives of mine) who were hired to positions in his time who had not even had a single meaningful job in their lives and were suddenly influencing national strategy.
None of what I said here comes from any opinions heard anywhere - these are my own thoughts and feelings based on things I have seen.
If you want to see good leadership, look up videos of the Singapore president talking to the people during these times. A much smaller country - but nevertheless a country that is highly exposed because of its geography and the nature of its economy.
This whole social issue has been politicized out of proportion by everyone - left and right. The people need to just set aside politics and focus on getting back to work (maybe it is slightly different from what we were doing before) AND taking responsibility for each other's well-being. We do not need people to be chest-bumping about "my right". It is our rights and no-one can take them. Leave the chest-bumping to those whose heads are hollow.
